Hi Paul:
For me, in the most basic sense, the goal it's getting students job ready. Learning is the objective, teaching is the method, and an educated student is the outcome. With that, seeking work is the next step. Obviously, there's a lot in between all this but that's it in a nutshell.

Regards, Barry

The goal in educating students is to make sure the students are attaining their goals that they've set for themselves. We must as educators have a simple conversation with our students to make sure we know something about them to help in guiding as well as educating them.

Hi William:
Job ready - right!. Where we can add to the level of professionalism, vision for change, and hope for good, solid career planning, all the better.

As an Instructor in a career college, my goal is to develop competent and educated students for career positions and to prepare them to reach their career potential.

Hi Lori:
True. Students need a vision as to why they need to learn the material. The goal then is to assure we give a double shotgun blast of all we can in the short time we have them.

Regards, Barry

Hi Ariana:
Job ready is the goal - yep! Lot's of learning has to fit within the timefrmae of the program and individual courses, but our goal is to methodically proceed making sure each nuggest and pearl is achieved by all students.

Students are here for a purpose, that is to prepare themselves for a career. Our job/goal as instructors is to make sure our students acquire all the necessary skills in order to succeed out in the "real world". We must provide them the tools and knowledge that will allow them to be prepared so that when they are out on their own they have the confidence that they know how to perform their job efficiently.

I think the main goal of educating students is relating the content material you are teaching to the real world/everyday life. If students can see how the information presented can be useful to them/how it impacts them, they will be more engaged.

Hi Shanna:
Yes, good preparation leads to the needed knowledge, skills and affect (KSA) required in the work setting.

Regards, Barry

Thanks.
That’s how I see it now and that’s how I saw it when I was a student.

Anna

Hi Anna:
Nice analogy! We are the creators of opportunity. Getting the students to view our role in that manner can potentially change lives.

To show them the door and give them an instruction on how to open it. On the other side of the door is a better job, more money, self-confidence, social status, better understanding of world they are surrounded by, knowledge in general and hopefully, better human being than they were on this side of the door.

Hi Rene:
Teaching how to learn is best lesson anyone could ever receive. There many approaches, but if that goal is acheived, that is quite exceptional.

Regards, Barry

Hi Raymond:
Yes, tools, but also understanding behind those tools. This answers the "why do I have to learn that if I'm never going to use it on the job".

Regards, Barry

Hi Quebec:
I agree that knowledge alone is not enough. It must have an application to be effective. This is most especially true in vocational training or in classes that are directly work related.

Regards, Barry

The goal of educating students is to ensure that learning transpires within the academic environment. Just educating students is not enough if the students cannot apply what they have learned to various situations.

I have gotten no better satisfaction then when I have instructed someone, and they learn the material. But I have come to realize that my goals should have been to teach them how to learn, and in turn use the ability to learn for how to apply whatever the knowledge to practical life for overall betterment, not just "getting a job" or "passing a class."

The ultimate goal of educating students is to provide them with the tools to make education a life long experience.

The goals is to prepare them for their careers. They also need both technical and communicative skills reinforced.

The real goal for myself is to give the students the tools they need to succeed. Not just knowledge, many different skills are required in any career. I can share a mountain of knowledge with my students , but until they can apply it properly and understand the important process of thinking through the variables. I dont feel that I have educated them fully.
