Hi Dwayne,
Examples really do provide better clarity for students. Students get it when they can actually see it!

So they will have a better understanding.

Hi Gloria,
What a great document to share with students. Your students should have no excuse of not knowing what needs to be submitted.

Hi Leslie,
I love your calm approach with your math students. I can tell you have eased a lot of students fear. You are right most students are definitely afraid of math.

Patricia Scales

Hi Russell,
It is good when students have the cofidence that they can do the task. Students better understand when they have reinforcement. By seeing an example, students know exactly what is required of them. Sharing examples can be a win-win sitution for students.

Hi Merralinda,

Hi Deborah,
I like to share examples with students so that they are motivated and cofident in what they need to do.

I want my student to realize that they CAN be successful in my class very early on. By showing work or even sharing final exam grades of other students, current students can see that it's been done before, and they can do it also. I teach basic college math in a welding inspector program, which is never anyone's favorite class! They all come in with serious fear of failing because so many people are scared of math. I want to put them at ease and make them comfortable with me and my class right away, and this is a great way to do so.

Showing students examples of other students class work helps to give them an idea what you the instructor is looking for with different projects they may be handing in for your class.

It is helpful for students to have a good understanding of what is expected from them for the class as well what material you will be covering during the term. For that reason I also include a syllabus addendum which tells the date and the unit that is being taught. This includes the in class activity as well as the out of class activities dates this way there is no question in what direction my class will be taking during the entire term. In this addendum it includes all dates that the students need to be aware of for test, home work assignments.

It gives the students a clear understanding of what's expected of them.

It is important to show the students examples or demonstrations for a number of reasons. First, I believe it shows them that the task at hand is obtainable. If I can have a student do the demonstration or show student work it reinforces that for the students. Another reason is to set the level of expectation of what I am looking for and how I will be critiquing the students work. It also helps to answer any questions the student may have, if they see an example or demonstration or even have the questions arise from them seeing said demo or example.

So they have an idea what is expected of them and how it will be graded. You can alos include wjat the criteria will be for grading such as teamwork, professionalism etc.

It is important to show students examples so they can know their requirements and what is expected of them. It also help them prepare and plan.

Hi Lori,
Yes, visual adds better clarity for most students, especially if they are a visual learner.

Hi George,
Students seem to be much more confident about doing the assignment when an example is shared.
