Hi Tina,
Visual adds great clarification! I concur; students are so much more less stress when they can see an example.

Hi Emily,
I agree! Successful papers are so much more motivating/encouraging!! The point is to get the students excited about the assignment!

I have saved past students projects so new students can see what I am looking for and helps them to understand more easily what is expected. Just some examples of major projects, because they seem nervous of what is expected and doing this helps to relieve that stress in my class. I can see it in the look on their faces as it clicks, and that is awesome when I see that.
I agree with everyone who has stated that showing examples of student work is an excellent way to help students learn. I only show successful examples as "anchor papers" as it highlights the goals ( the instructor can point out why doing it any other way would be less successful or even erroneous) I do not think it is helpful to show "successful" and "unsuccessful " examples as it can be confusing and best illustrated in the rubric/Criteria for Success.
Hi Kay,
Knowing your students learning style is important! I love how you use this lesson to better prepare for your students for upcoming lessons to cater to their learning style.

Hi Niakesha,
Students have a better understanding if they can see exactly what is expected of them.

I find that showing examples of previous students work always creates excitement in the new students. One of my project assignments is for the students to create a tri-fold patient education pamphlet. On the first day of class I will provide the students with written instructions for the project along with a grading rubric that details exactly what I will be looking for. I will then show the class copies of several different students pamphlets. I will always note one as the favorite with explanations of why they were my favorite. I will then point out the separate components comparing with the rubric why the grade was received. In presenting assignments in this manner I can connect with the different types of learning styles in the class and I can sometimes observe from the beginning what student connects with each style for more focused lesson plans.
I agree with this comment. It gives great value in showing both positive and negative examples
Hi Jeff,
You are right! Students gain a better understanding of what needs to be done if they can see what needs to be done.

Hi,
I agree, visuals solidify things for students, however just seeing doesnt insure understanding for students.
They have to visuallize what they have seen in a format of application to ever totally comprehend it, if not its just mechanics.
Hi Jeff,
Visuals solidify things for students. Seeing is understanding for students.

Hi Robert,

Hi Tammy,
Visuals add great clarity! Students tend to grasp if they can see it!

I agree, as an instructor that teachers basic course material as well as advanced corse instruction. When they have examples, this helps them to visualize what is expected in class as well as in the field. Not with standing, it frees up time answering the same questions repetively.
It is helpful to show your students examples becasue it show them what your expectations are. Gives them a visual aid to follow.
It provides a student examples of the acceptable work that is expected from them and what to avoid. It also sets a framework of consistancy of what is needed to pass or excell in the clssroom
I agree, I have not done this but I can see how it would be very beneficial...
1. So they have a clear understanding on the expectations.
2. What a motivator and a way to just get them so excited for the 6 weeks they are about to embrace!!
It's helpful because students know what the expectation is. If they see a finished product, they can visualize their own work. They know what is to come and if you stay true to what you have shown them, they will be successful with the assignment AND respect you.
Hi Richard,
You are on point! Visual adds better understanding.
