We often find that we are having to define the laws and rules regulating our profession more so than our definitions contained in our catalog or enrollment agreement. We spend many hours with our students working on the laws and rules and the entire application process. We found it benificial to prepare a checklist and booklet containing the application and laws and rules to our students to help them with the process.
Michele,
You are right that they must understand they have to pass the State Boards. Another part of their licensure may have to do with background checks. Some students have not been forthright in discussing this and do not understand that a background check may affect licensure.
Marcie,
Good news! Build the notebook to work for you.
Marcie,
Excellent! Thank you for your post.
Lynn,
Very good suggestions! Replace!
Licensure is always a confusing term that our applicants have a hard time defining or interpreting. We are preparing our students for State Board licensure but they sometimes think that just completing the course is all they need. We have to be very precise at explaining the process of getting licensed in the State of Florida. We basically take them through all of the necessary steps to achieve full licensure and make sure they have a copy of the laws and rules that regulate our profession as well.

Creating a Resource Notebook is a great way to keep a lot of information organized in an easy to use format. In creating my Notebook I realize I need to gather more information from my Institution in order to best provide prospective students with the most current information.
Accreditation is commonly discussed during the admissions process. Prospective students want to know that our institution is properly accredited.
The term program is also commonly used when speaking with prospective students. As part of the admissions staff I answer questions regarding all of the programs this institution has to offer.
Enrollment is a term often used during the admission process. It is our responsibility to enroll students according to all rules and regulations.
Besides the Florida Statutes, since things change all the time, I believe you should also keep every update from your institution and make sure you throw away the obsolete. This way if something comes up you have the update at your finger tips. Also keeping a copy of a enrollment agreement in the notebook would also be help full.
Mariela,
It's a one stop shop!
Lynn,
Add any additional materials besides the rules and law to assist you. Your phone listing is a good addition to any in house reference materials.
Bill,
Excellent! Thank you for your post.
Dulce,
Yes there are twelve standards but also review Fair Consumer Practices.
Kristin,
The resources along with training puts the pieces together making your position compliant ready.
Daphne,
Excellent! You are on your way.
I agree. It is a great title!
I have placed the different sections of the Florida Statute as well as the Director of each department with phone no. and email address.
I find that the Resourse Notebook is full of valuable information for not just me but for the entire Admissions staff. Its good to have a "one source site" that answers a majority of questions during the Admissions process.
