The Resource Notebook is a great idea. I had always relied on an electronic file, in my Outlook, to hold important information. I never really looked in it. Making myself print and organize my Resource Notebook has made me more aware. One thing I put in my notebook is information about the marketing strategies and campaigns. We were sent emails with information. Again, I never looked or read it. By printing and filing in my notebook, I was able to discuss the campaign with the candidates. I hope to continue to add information but I am starting to realize my binder is too small (time for a bigger binder).

I already had made a resource manual for enrolling for Bachelor's Degrees and Master's degrees. (I will only be working with our Alumnus.) I also had already created a manual with all of our company’s information, rules, regulations, policies and procedures, alumni benefits, career development, and networking benefits.
I was looking at this additional required manual as a note book to pass this class and to learn the Florida regulations. Upon further contemplation, I see that I need to combine both manuals so that I can use them both together. This will be my one "go to" place, along with our online information. I also thought that since I have worked an Enrollment Advisor for over 5 years there hasn't been, and probably would not be, a huge enlightenment; however, the truth is that in this industry, "Change" happens all the time.
I also thought that since I have worked as an Enrollment Advisor for over 5 years there hasn't been a huge enlightenment; however, reality is that "Change" happens everyday and I always have to keep up with the changes, new rules and new regulations. That is a huge part of this job. In reality there is much to learn, relearn, and changes to adapt to. This job is a forever changing and growing everyday, and as an enrollment advisor I always have to keep up with the changes and new rules and regulations. In reality there is much to learn, relearn, and changes to adapt to. This job is a forever changing growing process.

Common terms that are used on a daily basis.. are Accreditation, Enrollment Agreement, and Scholarships. Although many students tend to ask about the Accreditation they seldom know what the word means, but have been advised by someone to ask about it. Although I always advise my students accordingly and explain to them what to look for in other Universities a lot of them do not know the difference to begin with. As far as the Enrollment agreement goes students sign and then ask questions. I like to encourage all students to read and print a copy off for their records. The thing that bothers me is when a student has went to high school and I have to tell them that there Diploma from High School is not recognized because of the lack of Accreditation and it would be best for them to obtain a GED. Or that there credits are not transferable for that reason.

Some of the terms we commonly use are accreditation, enrollment agreement, Program, regulations, scholarship, etc.

I have just started My resource Notebook. Although I was well educated on the terms and definition I did place them in my notebook. Mainly so I would be better able to explain to the student exactly what the purpose of some of the doucmentation was that they are being required to fill out and services that are availabe to them ( ie enrollment agreement and Title IV funding).

At this point everything for the area I am working with is still fairly new, But the rules and regulations so far seem to be the same.

an enrollment agreement is a contract that is signed by the applicant as well as by authorized personnel at the institution. this contract is very important since forms the agreement to terms of enrollment and provides information about policies of the institution. their signature indicates their acknowledgement.

Some frequently used terms are:

DOA - Director of Admissions

DOE - Director of Education

Enrollment Agreement - Form used to solidify the relationship between the student and our institution

FA - Financial Aid

Program Requirements - list of tasks which need to be completed in order to successfully complete the program.

Program requirements
admission requirements
testing requirements
accreditation requirements
transfer credit policy
tuition and fees

Jonathan,
Definitions can be found in both the statutes and the rules. They both, the laws and rules, do protect both the student and the school providing guidance and directive.

Patty Aronoff

Candice,
The Florida Statutes are the laws that govern the sector and the Florida Administrative Code or rules tell us how to apply those laws.

stan ,

Continue to add additional material that can assist you in your role in admissions. The notebook should be the most read book on your shelf.

Patty Aronoff

Lindsey,

Your suggestions are great! I am sure others will find it a valuable addition to their notebooks as well.

Patty Aronoff

Carrie,

It is the only way to operate. The rules protect everyone involved with honesty and integrity as our guides.

Patty Aronoff

Francesca,

I am glad you brought up the admissions questionnaire as this is an active document used by most admissions departments. Often, reps do not take the time to actively fill out the questionnaire and skip through it. This document is a communication tool but also a record of conversation that can assist in the student experience with other departments. Discovery of challenges and dreams helps!

Patty Aronoff

Francisco,
The Commission for Independent Education is governed by the State of Florida, Department of Education.

Leania,
Scholarships must be fully explained with the criteria for application and the selection of awards.

Patty Aronoff

Todd,

Didactic is one term many students have not heard before. They need full explanation of the student experience which is didactic and clinicals and how they interplay.

Patty Aronoff

Melanie,
Excellent! Thank you for adding your definitions to the forum.

Patty Aronoff

I printed out the terms and definitions to place in my binder. I found out one of my answers was wrong and was able to be given the correct answer. I understand that rules and regulations not only protect the student, the protect the college or university.

I put all the printable info in it along with my institutions catalong, I didn't know all the rules and regulations that applied to my institution
