Questioning in Class

I never realized the power of the question.  I grew up with classes filled with closed ended questions, only built on answering a guide full of core objectives.

I truthfully hated school and maybe that is why I became a teacher.  I wanted to give someone else a classroom where they were nurtured and assisted to develop new ideas and skills.

This class helped me rethink some of the very things which stunted my development as a child, and hopefully I will be able to employ some of these ideas to create an even more stimulating and encouraging atmosphere in… >>>

Mantaining the Adult Class

It is nice to see how other teachers manage the same problems.  When we are put in similar situations, it is sometimes the abilitty to handle difficult people and difficult situations that shows our strength as a person, and is the greatest teaching tool that we may have.  Students will actually mimic your behaviors, and if you set the bar high and hold to your moral and ethical stance... you may not be everyone's favorite teacher, but you will be giving each student a good life skill while sharing the information on your class topic.

Being professional in the class room

Each day I write in the top right hand corner of the board the word "Professional" and immediately below it I post the definition: 1. Knowledgeable 2. Ethics/morals.

Reason:

When there is a behavior pattern that is not consistent with the expected norm, I refer the student to the top right hand corner, by saying "that is not professional". Equally, if the behavior is worth applauding, for example, courtesy extended in any form to a class mate, I would say "that is being professional". Hopefully, the students will ponder first, whether their words or actions reflect the professionalism being trained towards.

Very informative course. It is very important to ask questions, as you will then have a better understanding of your students learning abilities. You will be able to see if your students are understanding what is being taught to them.

Students interaction

As Screamin' Eagle instr's we continually interact with our students to keep them engaged. We use an active teaching style to keep them thinking critically and analitytically.

15 Minutes of Content

I'm already thinking about how I can restructure many of my courses to smaller 15 minute bites.

ED103

Susan Polick's course was very well organized and the information was very helpful for me as a relatively new educator.  Creating tests and evaluating the student's knowledge is a challenge for me.  I am grateful for the resources and reading the blogs about open book testing and test creation.

Thank you

ed101

As a new instructor, ED101 was a great course that reinforced some best practices that I learned in my indoc period at my institution. Yes, much of the info was review, but a strong review of the foundational knowledge of instruction is a good thing for new instructors.

ED 102

This is great information however, we are not given enough time to fully read all info.

classroom

Very good course.

EL102 Great Information

This course was well written, being new to teaching online I have come across some challenges or should Isay obstacles.  Some of the obstacles they mentioned in the course such as students not being motivated or the shy ones not wanting to participate, because they were just afraid of what they wrote would be wrong. so I kept asking myself day after day what can I do to make this work. After taking this course alot of the information that was written I took it and applied it to the way i have been teaching my courses, within the first couple… >>>

Student Assessment

Motivating Students I truly enjoyed this presentation.  I really believed that I am a very good instructor in the class room.  But now I realize that there are lots of areas that I never even thought of.  Student interaction and response in the class room is good example of room for improvement for myself.  Also, I had no idea of the validity and purpose of the type of question that I have been using. Now I do.

ED104

Excellent course. I hope all Instructors take this Course and take back to the Classroom what they have learned.

Training

Good information and content.  It was nice to hear, I am not the only one who has felt the way I have as a brand new first time instructor.  That was comforting.

ED 310

An overall excellent training.  Will incorporate the football and baseball games.

ED 104

Excellent training but lengthy.

Things I appreciated about ED106

I think the course provided a good overall outline of how to become a more engaging instructor. The sections addressing eye contact and floating around the classroom were especially helpful as they covered in detail how to effectively refocus the attention of my students without distracting them with my nervous energy. Sometimes when I am under a time crunch due to unexpected interruptions or delays, I try to wrap things up quickly to make sure I get to cover everything I had planned for that day. Nonetheless, I have learned that it's better to just review what we were able… >>>

ED104

I will focus on cognitive, social, and psychomotor learning in all classes moving forward.  I will apply this to surgical section CPT coding by theory based discussion on surgical guidelines and medical terminology.  Then I will apply this case studies for social discussion and critical thinking

Good Information

I just completed ED102 I really enjoyed it. It gave me a lot of good information. I really feel that I learned somethings that I did not know. It was a great course and very helpful and informative.
