I learned that students love games and normally pass the exam with a high score when we play a game the day before the exam.

Developing as an Instructor

Developing as an instructor require the 3 m's modeling lead by example start class on time models assignments are due on time, managing relays to being prepared a good manager takes in account the the possible challenges and still prepared to lead class and teach students and movitating give students a out side speaker or a goal a carrot if you will to encourage completion.

Active Learning

Active learning should be incorporated along with an instructor’s lecture. Active learning will engage the student in class activities such as discussions, group projects, and hands-on activities that will enhance the student’s knowledge of a topic.

Positive reinforcement

Being in the culinary field, we thrive on positive reinforcement. It drives us and motivates us to do more and do better work. We want to hear the "aahs" and "oohs". So, when I talk to students about their work I always encourage them by telling them the good and how to improve on the not so good. They listen and want to improve.

How do you engage the quiet, shy, and low self esteem students ??

I work with adults so stickers and candy just would not work for me. So I ask the forum, how do you work with these type of adults ?

Qestioning as a teaching technique

After my lecture I asked questions right away to make sure they get the right information. There are times that some students don't get it so I have to do all over again & I don't mind.

First impression the first day of class

Your first impression should always be the best as well as continue trought out the course of teaching. It should always be proffesional in the way of speaking as well as the way of dress.

It is alway a good idea for an instructor to use other sources of learnig material for students to research what ever is being taight in the course.

Molding the minds of your students

I belive it is very important for an instructor to have a prominent background in the field of which they are teaching in order to help mold the minds of there student in learning. Not only will you be teching them but you can also provide live experiences in the field to better provide an understanding of what is being taught.

Short Lessons

Hello Everyone, When conducting my class I find that short 15-20 minute activities every 2 hours or so refocuses the students and puts them on the right track once again. My classes are normally 5 hours long so those 15-20 minute presentation really do help to break the silence of just doing work on the computer. Though my students are learning by doing even this can become very tedious. Thanks. K. Sweet
