Teachers being a "model" in a world viewing the profession poorly

Doctor: As a former judge and prosecutor, now involved in teaching a highly technical, non-academic skill, I've again come across the all-too-common belief that "those who can, DO; those who cannot, TEACH; and those who cannot teach, TEACH TEACHERS?" Thanks. MARC

Importance of Questioning

Questioning can come from both sides, students and instructor?

Selection of Test Material

Can we mix differents kind of test into one test?

Professionalism

It's always great to have some time to reflect on my teaching competencies. As a lifelong learner, I find there are always areas for improvement. The Harvard bytes were interesting; it's a good touch to have input from such a prestigious school. I am also an introvert, and so my challenges are in the areas of creating greater rapport with my students. Wish me luck! :)

Evaluating Experimental Learning

Self Assessment and On Site Supevisor Assessment are important for an Evaluating Experiential Learning?

SYLLABUS - THE SKELETON FOR THE COURSE

The syllabus is the skeletal framework for the course. The teaching, along with additional resources, such as multi-media, handouts, activities, and instructor experience in their field provides the "muscle and sinew." The "halo" is the charisma, knowledge and demeanor of the instructor. Putting together the skeletal framework, muscle and halo creates a package that when delivered to the students, creates a terrific learning environment.

Learning Styles

Learning Styles depend more the instructor to know what kind the students they have and them decided what kind of Learning style they gona use in their class?

attention spans of adult

proper styles of teaching could solve this problem... for me it is important to assess students and make ways for them to learn more

Planning

early planning is an important strategy in teaching because it helps prepare the instructor in teaching students better

being a professional instructor

being a professional instructor requires passion of helping students achieve what goals they have set in their lives. The 3 roles of an instructor are wonderful guidelines to reach this...

Instructing learners with disabilities

One must have patience. I find that many of the disabled learners are capable of learning if they are given the chance to comprehend the subject matter. Making sure to slow things down and not have it overwhelming is a must.

Instructing Diverse Learners

Instructing diverse learners is a challenge but I'm up for it. Many times I've asked other student for assistance in the class room and they have been glad to help. I always make it known, that if anyone is having a problem understanding anything, I am available to assist them. I post my office hours at the beginning of the quarter.

Organizing student learning groups

There must be a clear plan for the discussion, that's the instructor's job. Before selecting the groups, I have an observation session of my own. We have a "get to know you" discussion. Each student tells the class about his/her hobbies, favorit books they've read even likes or dislikes about attending school. The stronger, more outspoken students I will choose to seperate placing them in the groups last after making up the group itself. I feel it's important to have balance.

Creating an Overview on the Fly

I just started online teaching and Ive noticed a trend of being thrown into a class with little experience teaching that specific unit. I stay ahead of the students but how exactly would anyone suggest creating road map or overview at the last minute. Possibly when you are not terribly familiar with the competencies yourself?

Role model

Do you feel the instructor must be a role model for the students? I do!

Blue

How do you feel about blue painted classrooms? I think they are great and students are productive.

Disruptive students

How do you feel about not giving the disruptive students any attention? I feel this works.

Learning styles

I feel it is best to use all styles within each hour of lecturing. Any feedback on this?

Retention

I like using aids for retention such as index cards, different color highlighters and PP printouts. Any other ideas?

Using Colors

How do other's feel about the walls being painted blue in the classrooms? I think it is great!
