Coping With Stress

I can only control what I can control. What is beyond my control should not cause undo stress and aggravation. I need to monitor my stressors.

Yelling is intimidating to co-worker

During a meeting, a co-worker raised his voice at another co-worker. The other co-worker repeatedly asked him to lower his voice. The yeller’s reason for yelling was the other person kept interrupting him before he could get his point across, and he had to yell to get his point across. The boss understood the yeller’s reason. My opinion is if you feel interrupted you should ask the person to give you time to get your point across. Yelling at someone is intimidating. The feeling of intimidation could cause the other person to keep defending himself with interruptions.

Customer Service

My job is to be available to students when they have problems with their loans, grades, or other issues. Students think they can come into my office if the door is open any time! And they will hover around the door even if I am on the phone. On the one hand, it's good that they can figure out who can help them with their issue, but on the other hand, I still have to do my jobs!! What I have learned is to stream line the questions, and I have created possible problems that may come up. Then, on the first day, I have a handout and I personally meet with the new students to review any questions or concerns. I also trained junior staff to field some of the easier questions as well. That way, I front load my time!

Measuring Goals

I nver realized how important nmeasuring your goals were until this exercise.

Getting things done

Working two jobs with two small children (including a newborn) makes it difficult to get everything done that I need to do. I will use some of the tips from this lesson to try to streamline my life a bit more, including not immediately answering emails, and saving routine stuff for the end of the day.

Stress

I think that the stop, breathe, reflect, and choose works the best for me to relieve stress.

Wasting time

It is obvious from this course that we MUST be aware of not only wqasting our own time but stealing time from others to support our personal needs.

spend extra time

It is hard to say "no" to boss, so I sometimes spend extra time to do some tasks. If it's too much extra work, maybe every day, every week, I might say no..but if it does not require too much time, I usually say "yes".

Career Management

Exploration would be very important in career management; identification of knowledge, talents, strengths and skills are key to accomplish your goals.

Great formulas

If both the instructor and students practice these techniques there will be less stress in the classroom arena!

Unreasonable Expectations

My team and I are currently working with a student that has unreasonable expectations. She is to the point that she is demanding us to complete her applications for employment, and even trying to have us assist her with her assesments. Have any of you come across this behavior and what advice do you have for us? She seems very dependent on my team and I and we don't want to offend her.

We all know the theory part but this unaspected issue arise really anaspacted!! Thank you Patrick

Setting Goals

I found this workshop very useful in breaking down the various types of goals and how to prioritize them. I really needed this.

Follow Thru

Time-management is key, however all the planning in the world is useless unless you follow through. I recognize this as one of my biggest flaws, and constantly remind myself to stay focused and actually follow the time-management strategies I put together.

It's hard for me to relax

I work out twice a week but i get to work and i feel drained. I try to make light of any situtaion but this is really drian my best efforts.

Leaning on others

When I am feeling stressed about work I call my friends that are in the same position as I am but at other campuses. We spend a few minutes venting over the phone or schedule a lunch meeting to vent and regroup. It helps me to talk about the issue and not feel like I am the only one going through it. I am grateful to have these people as a source of support.

Stress and motivation

It is almost comical that the company i work for (it will go unnamed) is putting so much pressure on all of its staff to complete a certain amount of these trainings by a particular date. In addition, they are putting a great deal of pressure on the supervisors that oversee us to get this accomplished. Needless to say, it is indeed causing confusion and questions. In the interest maturity and good sense, I will say no more..... but it seems management would really benefit from taking this course.

Overcoming a first firing

I have been working for around 19 years in the same profession. I am currently gainfully employed, but about a year ago I was "fired" for the first time ever. I have asked my former employer for some explanation, but have still not gotten a solid response. I'm trying to let this go, but have noticed the stress of it affecting the way I interpret information from my new job (which is done mostly electronically). Any suggestions or like stories?

Dealing with a Difficult Boss

How do you deal with a boss who creates tension in the workplace and unmotivates his/her team?

TIME MANAGEMENT

Time management is important in achieving th egoals we set. How do we handle unexpected events when we are already short on time to complete necessary goals?
