i have found that by setting the disiplin level at the very start ,just like telling the student the courses coriculom will help the students understand what will be exspected of them throughout the course. this will also help the following instructors as well.

Creating a comfortable atmosphere

I have a coffee maker in the classroom. The first day of the class I make a pot of coffee and encourage anyone who would like a cup to enjoy. I then let them know if they would like to continue to have coffee it is up to them to supply the coffee. I let them know I will supply the other necessities for coffee(cups,cream,sugar). I also let them know if you finish the pot you refill the pot. This gives the students some responsibility,it promotes teamwork to keep the pot filled and the smell of coffee brewing is comforting to most.

Keep the students eye on the prize

We occansionally have race teams come and use our chassis and engine dynos, this lets students work and talk with race team members. The students get an insight to what the teams are doing and what they may be doing in thier future.

Experiments

I found that the experiments that were suggested were a little callous. I do not think it is right to treat students different than others. If the technique has been proven in studies by professional researchers than it should be instituted across the entire student body.

Greeting the student

It's great when you meet your student at the begining of day at the door of your classroom. You can see if one of your students is have a bad day and get turned around and start have a great day just by you saying hellow with a smile.

have fun

i like to have fun. the students like to have fun. they can learn and have fun at the same time, class's don't have to be so boring. i play music when they come in to class, this gets them pumped up, ( there's nothing wronge with some old school pantera). and who said you have to stay in the class todo reviews? take them out side, change the scenerey. the time will fly by, and the boredum won't set in..

Using The Text Book

How is everyone using the text book the students received. What I have done is use the text book following our power point presentation. For example horsepower is presented in the power point. In the the text book the different types of horsepower are explained more indepth.
