Model

I would like to say that my students will try to mirror thier instructor/teacher. They respect them and will follow their lead if they are a good leader. The instructor must set the tone for the class as well as make it a great environment to learn. Every student dreams to have that loving and caring instructor who will dedicate their time and be fair at the same time. It all stems down to the professionalism of the teacher. Are they on time and prepared for the class? Will the students enjoy the lesson that is being delivered and was it a well thought out lecture that will catch thier minds? Every instructor is on stage and should present an amazing lesson for each and everyday. If that was successful, the student will crave more knowledge to be back the next day.

TEAMWORK MEANS YOU AND ME

Teamwork brings success not only to the entire organization, but also to the individuals within the team. Teamwork makes responsibilities more manageable with a more efficient result.

TO BE A TEACHER YOU NEED STUDENTS

First of all appreciate the effort that students put to attend class because of the students you have a job. You must make sure to schedule time effectively so students go home every day confident that they learned something new and gained new skills. Instructors must educate themselves on a daily basis to ensure they are knowledgeable about the subject matter they teach and are updated on the new technology used in their field of study. When students believe their time is well spent, they will attend. When they are convinced the instructor is knowledgeable and investing in educating them they will be retained.

INSTRUCTORS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Students pay their college for the education they receive. Instructors are paid by the college to educate students. Overall, the instructor's role is not only affecting the student who paid for the education, but also changes the entire environment around the student's personal and professional lives by shaping them into a better person who is more educated and presenting them to society and their family. This in the end builds a better reputation for the college to encourage more people to become educated and gain a career.

STRUCTURE = LEADER = INSTRUCTOR

A good leader must set rules and regulations in order to establish a strong foundation. Students need the structure that only rules and regulations can give. The instructor must choose rules and regulations that will establish him/her as the leader. A successful leader is the person who is a living model. In order to set yourself as a mentor, it is essential that you follow the same rules and regulations you expect your students to and monitor their compliance. Retention can only come when students have structure and feel their instructor expects nothing less than their compliance and success.

There are a number of students that move to this city completely unprepared to even live and support themselves, much less go to school for 25 hours a week. It seems that they are taking less personal responsability for getting jobs and for saving money and doing all of the things necessary to live well enough to attend school. I know that they are counsled on what they need to do, but when they don't listen, they are always one tank of gas...or one financial set back away from wanting to quit and go home.

Our motto is that we change student lives everyday. By providing attention to those who are having troubles or are at risk of dropping out of school. We reach out to them to help in any way we can and provide support to accomplish their goals.

Retention and Placement

Retention isn't simply the goal and/or responsibility of an Academic/Education Department. This factor effects all departments, and as such, all departments must make retention a priority. The Career Services/Placement department plays an active role in retention/attrition. Indeed, in this economy, job placement assistance is a valuable service available to students, and may make the decision to stay in school easier. Understandably, money is a motivator, and if funding becomes an issue for students, the placement department may be able to offer help.

intelligent heart

There is a hidden center of energy inside us which could open a new door for us to face and to solve our problems. This heart is the center full of powers: power of thinking, power of passion, and power of willing. discovering our hidden heart would be a miracle in our life. To help our students in opening this new door, we should first teach them to believe in themselves, and for making such a belief, we have to learn how to belive in themselves(our students). If we believe that they as human beings have such a hidden center, we could easily bring them up, and let their abilities grow and flourish.

Team work

It is very important to work as a team and maintain good communication to aid in retention. If the whole team is not on the same page we will fail in every area. The whole goal is to communicate and support the faculty in order to feel there is a team.

Motivation is the key

Everyday I take 5 minutes to motivate the class and share some type of positive reinforcement with them. This leads to major productivity.

First day of class

On the first day of class as an ice breaker I have each individual explain about why they chose the medical field and what are there short and long term goals? These are great points to aid in painting a future for motivation.

Leadership

Little things like leadership roles in the class are amazing retention tools. At times even if you have established your leadership roles you can seek out the troubled students and give them some type of role to aid in motivation. I feel the teamwork and leadership roles = outstanding retention.
