It creates an atmosphere of calm and confidence, both for the instructor and the students. When you are flustered or looking for notes or unprepared, your students become anxious and annoyed. It's part of classroom management to create an environment conducive to learning, and that involves keeping the flow organized and being prepared to cover the topics in depth. It helps me to feel calm and focused, and that is reflected in the attitude of the students.
Time is very important and being prepared and ready shows, to me, a sign of orgination.
Being organized and prepared gives the student a sense of confidence in the instructor. It helps the students not get confused, which makes their learning experience more affective. Being organized also helps the instructor in his or her lectures/demos allowing it to run smoothly.
A day in my class room is like life. If I prepare for what comes next I will succeed. If I wait for things to happen I react. By reacting instead of planning I have no control of the outcome or hope of a positive result other than through dumb luck.
I find that it is important to organize and prepare for each class so that you as the instructor can be sure to stay on task. I put an agenda up for every class. This lets the students know what we are doing during the time they are with me and it ensures that I will stay on task.
I agree with the relaxed environment. No student wants to watch an instructor fumble through their things in order to find what needs to be handed out, reviewed, etc.
Being prompt and starting on time is a must. However, ending on time and not dismissing your classes early is just as important. Give the students what they are paying for.
This is extremely important because it shows that you are prepared and first impressions leave a lasting impression on the student. It also helps to project a more relaxed environment within the classroom. Being prompt and starting class on time also shows organization.

It is important for an instructor to be organized and prepared to teach students because it shows professionalism, the students know what will be done for the day and it promotes them to trust in the instructor and be confident the instructor is knowledgeable of the content and prepared to work.
It is important to be organized & prepared for class because we as instructors set the example & the standard to which we should hold our student to. With preparation & organization, the class has a sence of flow & direction in order to achive the days production; without wasting time trying to figure out where to go next.
Hi Kay:
Yes, we do lead by example, and then some. Competence and confidence in the content delivery go hand in hand, and students will always appreciate the time, effort and planning that the organized, prepared teacher has gone to in order to have a smooth running, well planned class.

Hi David:
I believe respect for our students is an admirable trait, right up there with courtesy, acceptance, patience, tolerence for differing viewpoints, and giving time for each student.
Students will return most of these same traits if they're demonstrated honestly and with sincerity. I think there should be a "Bill of Student Rights", and these sentiments, along with a few others ought to be included. To me, it's just unacceptable to be less than mature and professional when interacting with students.

Hi Millicent:
Good thoughts. A prepared teacher earns the respect of their students through judicious planning, time, and thought tha goes into each class. Less than prepared teachers will be identified by the students and, although they may not comment, they will be reognized as unprepared.
As you infered, preparation leads to smooth and enjoyable classes that demonstrate you care about their learning, and are willing to go out of your way to assist them in achieving their goals.

Hi James:
I think you're right, well prepared classes run smoothly, seamlessly moving from topic to topic, all resources ready, media and class material ready to go. Illustrations, examples, samples, or demonstration help engage the students as do directed discussions. If we facilitate classes, allowing students to participate, their learning sessions will be more memorable and meaningful.

Hi Mark:
Prepared teachers are the professionals our students expect. As professionasl, we owe our students the time, effort, and planning it takes to prepare a thorough lesson. Gathering resources, choosing media, preparing a lecture, organizing equipment, constructing quizzes and tests, planning activities that will engage students (discussions, projects, etc) - these are just a few examples of what it takes to prepare.
When we look at it like this, you're right, a studet will be able to see if the teacher has prepared or not. Unpreparepared classes are...well, ugly.

So you know the information you are going to teach. Students pick up on someone faking the class.
I have found the better prepared for class, the more engaged the class becomes. Especially if it is a dry subject. I more examples to to prove the point I want to make, too.
When an instructor is prepared it means they have reviewed the material prior to the class and they are comfortable with the content. It ensures that they can present the material with cinfidence to the class and demonstrate their professionalism and respect for the class. They lead by example
I LOVE THE RESPECT FOR STUDENT. THEY ARE SO AWARE AND RESPECT SEEMS TO BE AT THE TOP OF THE LIST.
Being prepared and organized creates a positive learning environment, demonstrate that you respect your students, and that you are interested in their learning and success.
Hi David:
An organized teacher has all the parts working for him/her: resources, media, lectures, teaching aids, handouts, etc. When students see the time, planning and effort that has gone into preparing for a class they will realize the student cares and is ready to teach.
