Organization is key to enable clear communication and to convey an ordely thought process. without organization there is cofusion, and chaos.
Not only does it help my students feel comfortable but it also helps me feel great about the class and lecture that is about to take place.
Robert:
True, we can "teach" professionalism" a little bit each day by being good role models as exemplified by being on time, prepared, having all our resources together, lesson and quiz ready, etc. Also, looking clean, dressed well (shoes shined) plays a part. Being approachable, patient, showing courtesy and respect will usually translate to mirror action by bthe student.

Gordon:
I agree that without a degree of enthusiasm, the teachers interest in the topic may not be conveyed, even if they are prepared well. An occasional display of excitement and anticipation can go a long ways.

if the instructor is not prepared then how do you expect the students to have confidence in learning the material that is being taught.
Being organized and prepared to teach the class
shows interest in the topic and true professionalsim.
because he or she need to show the students that they are professional and ready for whatever may come across them they can solve
If we require our students to be prepared then we should adhere to this principle in our preparation.

ist of all it sets the tone for the class, that first moment the students meet you they develop an inclination that you will be ready for class everyday, then they come to class prepared also. it also shows that you care about the flow of the class, if you have to constantly go a fetch equipment or product then it takes away time from spending with the students during their projects and being able to assist them.

I believe that it sets a great example for the class -- both in the short and long term. Students see that the expectation is there form the to be ready for each attendance. Additionally, students will understand and see the value of being prepared in their future careers (organization/preparation can lead to success).
Hi Ron:
Some students may sense the caring attention a prepared teacher will provide. Others may just expect it. And if class slows down, students are quick to lose attention. So, being prepared means keeping things moving along, having the resorces needed, ready to ask and answer questions, and convey your purpose is to teach them the best you can. It would hard not to appreciate a teacher who demonstrated all of the foregoing traits, I would guess.

Hi Darlene:
Good point about keeping students attention. I would agree that when there is a well yhought out plan, and materials are ready to go, the flow will better and students will feel more comfortable being the receipients of this kind of focused learning, based on an objective-based instructional plan.

Besides, just ensuring that the instructor has a good day, it help in all aspects of classroom management. If you are organized and prepared, the students will stay on task, there will be less talking -- because the instructor will get right to the task at hand.
If there is too much fumbling between lessons/activities, it will be hard to get the class back on track.
Hi Teri:
Good. And setting the tone from day one is very important as trying to recapture attention lost or unmet expectations is very difficult.

It shows the students that you really care.
Being organized and preparing well for class is vital for a positive learning environment. It sets the tone for the class and shows students you care about your work and about them.
Hi Christina:
Yes, frustrating, and a loss of interest and respect for the teacher. We can gain trust and attention of our students by being prepared, organized and ready to teach each assigned class day.

Hi Judith:
Well of couse I was writing the comment somewhat is jest to make a point. But still it would be important to consider these and other attributes that make the learning environment intersting and infromative for students, and make them feel like we are there for for them.
Regards, Barry
I think it would be very frustrating for the students if the teacher was not ready to teach and was not organized
Great idea. This exercise might help with the feeling of security of course relevance for the student.
