Hi Jennifer:

The problem with consistent disorganization from an instructor is the potential loss of credibility with the students, and the message it may send, which is “I’m not concerned enough about your learning to be organized for you”.

It demonstrates that as an instructor we care about the learning experience and also the value of the educational environment for which we are responsible. Also don't forget to make sure the class is stocked with the needed practical lab environment materials. I have found that not having the supplies needed for lab can exponentially increase classroom dissatisfaction. If the lesson calls for enough material so that each student practices a skill individually, then we do a dis-service to the students if they have to do the skill in groups because of lack of product.

The main tool to successful lecture is to be prepared

Being prepared for your class shows the students that you are professional and that you are ready for class/lab. This inturn produces positive results from students; this forces them or shows them that they need to come prared for areas requested by the teacher.

because is the right way to show to the students that being prepared, organized and ready to teach are ways of demonstrating respectful.

In order to earn respect the instructor needs to be prepared and know the content. Have handouts on a table or desk in a organized manner. Have objectives for the day on the board. Be at the door and greet students as they arrive for class. Be organized.

Hi Kai:
One thing that may happen when an instructor is disorganized on a consistent basis is that it may send a message to the group that you don't care enough about their outcomes to prepare sufficiently.

I think that showing up prepared and organized for class shows your students that you are interested in their education. Your credibility as an instructor is on line when you are not prepared for class.

I like being prepared for the class it lets the students know the importance of being in class on time and to let them know the instructor values their education and morales.

Being organized and well prepared for class shows your students that you care about the material being presented. I work in a career college and it is also important to me to lead by example. If I was unprepared for the day's lesson or lab, it may show my students that it is ok to be unprepared for their job. Proper planning prevent poor performance.

It will show the students that you are ready for them and give them the sense that you know where you are and what you are there for. It also shows that you are a professional and will hopefully lead them to do the same. When you are organized and prepared, your class presentation will be much more effortless.
