Hi Ron:
This sounds clearly like a very organized routine that you consistently follow. Too bad all classes weren't more like this!

The idea here is that if an instructor is consistently disorganized, it may result in a loss of credibility for that instructor and further impact the learning relationship the instructor has with a student.

Hi Warren:
And, disorganization on a consistent basis may suggest things to the student that are inappropriate. For example, it might suggest "I don't care about your learning" resulting in a loss of credibility from the student.

Hi Brenna:
Exactly! And, think of the impact it might have to the class relationship if the instructor were constantly disorganized. It may inadvertently send the wrong kind of message - something like "I don't care about your learning".

It demonstrates respect for your students, by them seeing that you are organized, it lets them know that you care enough to see them succeed.

An instructor needs to be organized and prepared to teach to help facilitate student learning. The focus of the class should be on the student and an organized instructor will be able to do this better if he or she is prepared to teach.

It will absolutely determine the course of the class. Not being prepared can cuse confusion

For me being organized gives me a sence of pride knowing i did everything possible to prepare for class so i can spend time understanding the students needs better. It gives me more classroom 1 on 1 time to students that are having a hard time grasping the material. This builds convedence in the student and resect to the instructor.

Prepartion for each class shows the students that you care about the subject and the students. Its cycle can start at the end of a class when you do a self assessment to better yourself and help organize for the next class.

Yes, when the student sees that the instructor is prepared and organized it will set a standard expectation for the classroom to follow each day. The student will come to expect this as the normal environment within the classroom.

I totally agree. As a culinary instructor I require that my students are prepared for class with all recipes written out, knowing the themes of the day and being ready to ask questions. If I am not prepared in the same way it does a great disservice to the student and myself.

It shows the students that you are confident and know the material you will be teaching.

Hi John:
Exactly! The opposite side of that coin is this: Disorganization will probably result in a loss of credibility with the student, and can distract the student from the learning process.

Hi Ruth:
That's great! In my experience, it also helps to review those expectations every so often, and remind the student they can find those written expectations in the syllabus (or wherever) if they ever have a question about it.

Hi Deborah:
Think of the message it might send the students when the instructor is consistently disorganized - it may inadvertently tell the student "I don't care enough about your learning to be prepared for you". That would be awful!

It shows the studetns that I take my job and their education seriously. It also conveys respect for them and their time.

I totally agree organization is a key element in presentation. And based on the student responses and questions which can guide the evolution of future presentations.

If a instructor is not prepared or organized, his presentation will not flow smoothly, and there is a strong likleyhood that he will not be able to mantain the classes intrest in the course material.

It demonstrates to the class that the instructor has respect for their learning experience.

To me it also means guiding them in the thought process to apply what they learn to new experiences.

It also reflects of professionalism, how you do you job. Are you organized and efficent or sloppy.
