It is important for an instructor to be organized and prepared to teach students because it shows professionalism.

As teachers we are examples and being prepared and organized shows the students that you value their time and will make the best use of time spent together.

I remember as a student, observing an unorganized teacher. This teacher would arrive late, scramble through papers, and forget assignments. Many of the students reacted by not caring about deadlines or not completing the assignment at all. What is the point of handing in your assignment on time if the professor can’t even remember when it was assigned? In contrast, I remember a professor who arrived to class early, handouts already on the desk, and ready to begin on time. The students’ reaction was much different in this situation, homework assignments were completed on time, and class went on with minimal disruptions. In order to manage others, you must be organized yourself. Otherwise, you’ll find it hard to stay on top of things.

Hi Kevin:
Organized = thought and planning has preceded course

Prepared = Media, lectures, training aids ready

Result = Course taught thoroughly and completely.

I believe there are several reasons for being organized. One reason is about presentation. The instructor needs to be prepared for work everyday, which means having his or her items ready to go. The other reason is because when the students come to class they need to be expected to start their day as well. They need to be learning what the career that lies ahead of them will expect and that is punctuality, detail orientation and organization.

I agree, going over the syllabus in detail the 1st class is key to student sucess.

I have found that students like to see the overall structure of class including what will be done every class period, when tests will be given, what the assignments are and when due. Giving students this at the beginning of the course aid in their time management.

It is very important to keep organized. Keeping organized helps you deliver the content material in the time set out for it. So if anything unexpected should occur you can quickly assess and make changes on how to deliver the content.

It's conducive to a smooth running class . The students will have confidence in the instructor ,and therefore , the course itself .

First of all we are role models. Secondly, this is a great start to student learning and can strongly affect the students performance. I struggle with this sometimes because we have such large classes and not enough time to get things done. However, excuses dont really help.

It's important to be well organized when coming to class because if you are disorganized the students will pick up on it and assume that you don't care. We are trying to be examples for our students and if we show that we don't care, why should they?

Having strong organization skills in the classroom is vital. It aids towards structure and less "stress". In addition, I believe in the importance of preparing my lesson plans at least two weeks in advance. This allows me to know exactly what to focus on [main subjects/topics] and make any adjustments for improvement.

I agree. An unorganized instructor quickly loses credibility and it is difficult to gain it back.

All,

Purchase something and receive it 75% completed, and that is exactly the way students perceive instructors who neglect preparation.

It's Not About Customer Service, It's About Student Loyalty....
Show them we are there and prepared to help them "Lift Off" to their Next Career, and they will respond positivelt and be loyal consumers!!

I have been told that it is best to be at least 15 minutes early. I am usually 30 minutes early because it takes me longer to get ready becuase I use alot of materials to help my students understand the material.

How can you teach your student if you are not organized and prepared when you get to the class room? When the teacher is organized and prepared with the material to teach, the student will learn and understand the subject better, they will pay attention and learn, the student will fill good coming to class every day and they will respect that teacher.

It can reflect the instructor's credibility. Organization and preparedness reflects efficiency as well, and students see that. Activities will run smoothly when organized and prepared. Of course, there will be unforseen instances to where we're not prepared..but should always be ready to flex.

It is important for an instructor to organize and prepare because it shows his or her students that the instructor is ready to aid in their learning. It shows that the instructor is professional, knowledgeable, and prepared for the task at hand. Plus, when an instructor is organized it makes the next class easier to teach. I have noticed that keeping my lectures and sheets organized makes it so I can quickly go to them, make notes, and change them for the next class.

A teacher always should know her subject and be organized and prepared, the students are coming to learn and ask question, if the teacher know her subject will make the class interesting and students will learn and participated in class.

I have to substitute for our instructors when they can’t make it. When it is last minute and I don’t have any time to prepare I can tell a different in the way my confidents is and I have to work much harder to keep them interested in the content luckily I am getting good at teaching on the fly. This will never be better then showing up prepared and organized for a class. When I show up prepared I have so much fun and it is less taxing to teach.
