Paula,
Hoefully these internal sentiments will be realized by the students we teach.
Barry Westling
Paula,
For me, in short: job ready and all that entails. Skills, knowledge, behavior, and professionalism. Given a chance, most students can build on these foundations.
Barry Westling
So that, with the skill base that has been taught, they can become productive members of society, with their work having merit, giving self satisfaction, and making a difference in the lives of others.
To assist in achivement of the reason for the educational process - sucess in the work environment, material and skill procument with a sense of satisfaction that hopefully becomes encoporated into their entire life. The process can also lead to self satisfaction in the knowledge that service delivery will continue at the level that you personally deliver.
Phuong,
That's great when students can understand and do all the training that was taught to them and repeated back. Along with that is the assurance the teacher has provided the knowledge, skills, and behavior that is appropriate to the job setting, and that leads to a successful job or career.
Barry Westling
the goal is when you see the student was able to understand and do all the training was taught to them and repeated back to you
G.,
We were hired for our abilities and so it becomes our resonsibility to give all we can to our students for success that we know is possible, based on our knowledge of the career area we are teaching.
Barry Westling
Diane,
Sure. Knowledge, career skills, and the soft skills that are often the reason younger individuals lose their jobs - not because of the technical ability, but the professionalism, attendance, courtesy, manners - basic people and work skills that somehow are not being taught in the homes of many of our students. So anything we can convey along these lines is part of the goals I have for my students, besides the hard skills and knowledge.
Barry Westling
to learn and apply knowledge for the rest of their life
The goal of educating students is to give them the tools or skills to have a career and provide for themselves. Hopefully to better themselves.
Russell,
Good worker are critical tyhinkers in my opinion. We should teach and practice critical thinking in our courses because, as you say, we really can't teach them everything they will need to know. But if we teach them how to think and approach situations they will be prepared to logically arrive at an answer.
Barry Westling
Demarcus,
In the workplace, one never knows when something they learned in school may apply. Having a comprehensive educational experience will be beneficial for those times the worker needs to pull information out of their long term memory.
Barry Westling
Charmelia,
For me, those maximum benefits are a prepared mind, with knowledge and skills appropriate to get them a good job that can springborad them to better jobs and and perhaps a career.
Barry Westling
Within the scope of science, my goal is not only to present them with the principles and concepts of science, but how are they going to apply it in their daily lives.
I want them to learn to think and question, not blindly follow. They need to be comfortable challenging or at least questioning their physicians as to why they need a certain medication or the effects of it. Just because the latest and greatest supplement is advertised, do they fully understand how that supplement will work and will it benefit them?
Apply science don't just go through the motions of "passing" the class.
The goal of educating students is to provide them with new knowledge that will prepare them for career opportunities and career success. Knowledge for knowledge's sake is only a secondary goal.
The goal of educating students is to ensure they receive the max benefits for their money.
Hi Brenda,
Great! If we could assure students could be already up to speed the moment they got their job in thier new career, we'd have achieved something. Since that's not reality, the best we can do is prepare them with the practical, theory, and professional aspects, and hope that the critical thinking skills will carry them through to uncharted areas in the workplace. After all, that's how we (as teachers) all got it, right?
Barry Westling
My goal in education, is to build a foundation of knowledge, and skills to enable my students to critically think and come to good decisions when presented with different situations and problems. If I taught 24 hours a day for 10 years, I cannot give them all of the facts and data they will need to know. But, I can give them direction and avenues to find the info necessary. I can help them to think logically and critically to pull information together in order to give the best patient care throughout their careers.
Hi Jeannette,
Good, realistic sentiment. I like your assumption of responsibility to your students. But you're right, we owe it to our students what we can provide to get them job ready.
Barry Westling
My goal in educating is to provide students with the skills and knowledge to be succesful in their career choice. I feel that I am also here to help motivate each individual to their needs. I am obligated to provide the essentials for each student accomplish their goal in finishing their course.
