I outline the syllabus that the college provides for the students, then I have my own specific syllabus that presents everything in basic terms with dates when we will work on them and what I look for when I am grading them. I try to make sure they feel comfortable with each point before I speak about the next one, so all questions and concerns are discussed beforehand, but also it gives everyone a chance to let me know how they feel about the lessons.
I ensure to cover every segment of the syllabi with as much detail as possible. then I give students an opportunity to reiterate what I covered to ensure understanding.
Hi Lucia,
I concur! A review is always a good thing. Make it known exactly what is expected, do not have any grey areas.

recaps of what was taught or what is expected is important as well.
Hi Fredrik,
The syllabus is certainly one of the best guides for providing clarity. Some students really do utilize the syllabus as a reference.
Patricia Scales
I give the students a syllabus of the course.
I also put the outline for each day on the white board and go over it. I also try to keep them on track through out the day.
Hi Socorro,
If students are able to apply what they have learned then they have the concept.
Patricia Scales
I write specific objective that we have to cover for the day. I check at the end of the period if we achieve that goal. I also see to it that reinforcement exercise are done as my evaluation.
In order to make the course requirements clear for the students I provide and we review on the first day of class a syllabus and lesson plan. Time is provided to discuss the details to let students feel comfortable with the agenda before them and to understand the academic goals.
That's a really good idea and it helps them stay organized.
My first class of the semester always begins with a discussion of the course syllabus. Nowadays everything is available on the portal so I make sure that the syllabus, too, is available much before the semester starts so that the students have had a chance to go through it. Then on the first day, I go through each aspect of the syllabus to make sure the students understand what we (I as an instructor and they as students) will be doing in the course. As was mentioned here in one of the ED104 topics, a syllabus is considered to be an 'operational manual' for the course and its clarity is of utmost importance. Throughout the remainder of the semester, I keep reminding students about the requirements mentioned in the syllabus that they have to complete.
Hi Rose Anne,
You do a fine job with ensuring your students get what they need in order to be successful. You go the extra mile to set your students up for success. Great clarity is added from the way you do things.

Hi David,
You go the extra mile for your stuents. They should be very appreciative! PowerPoint slides have really served as a great way for students to follow along and get a condensed version of the chapter.
Patricia Scales
One of the things I do for my students is provide powerpoint slides to them before class so they know the key points to be covered in class. Before each class I also provide a brief synopsis of the chapter or the material that is going to be covered in class.
I usually use the syllabus course requirements. On the first day of class I review the whole course and what will be required. I always make sure it is clear and the students understand what I have told them. Each week I am more specific with what will be required. The methods I use are handouts and bullet points on boards.
On the first day of class, I make sure I spend ample time going over course expectations. I outline the value of each grading section (assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects). I am also very specific in regard to addressing the issue of due dates. I also open the floor for questions to address any issues the students may not be clear on.

Hi Wilson,
You are very thorough with letting your students know what the requirements are. You really go the extra mile to ensure your students know. Your students can't use the excuse they did not know.
Patricia Scales
Hi Shawntel,
You have double coverage going on to ensure your students know exactly what is expected of them. There should be know surprises with your students. They know exactly what they are to do and where they stand grade wise.
Patricia Scales
In my syllabus I clearly state when all exams and writing assignments are given/due. I also post all written assignments on the student portal. In addition I give the students a hard copy of what the written assignment is and when it is due. On both it is clearly stated what the consequences are for missing/late assignments. The written assignments clearly point out what is expected and how the assignment will be graded i.e. spelling, grammar, content, etc.
Well for me i make a very detailed syllabus as well as create a Master Grade Sheet(paper copy) that i keep their grades on as well as i provide them with a copy of that sheet so that they can keep up with their own grades.
