Showing examples engages the students in what is expected, as well as gives them an example of what to emulate. I find having an example or model to go by lessens my anxiety and helps me complete the task. Instructions on what to do can sometimes be vague, but an example is concrete and can be a great learning tool.

I do not do enough of this at the beginning of class, but I am going to work to improve on this at the beginning of next semester.

Hi George,
I agree! Visual makes retention of information better.

Hi Cheryl,
I like how you get the students involved in the evaluations/comments so that they realize what was or was not done.

Showing examples of student's work can increase student participation and creativity.

a hands on approach is better. experiencing the real thing has a more permanent affect

A hands on approach and physical showing is always better

If you show examples of "A" work students will know what you expect. As part of launching my project I have the students make their own evaluations and comments of projects then let them know what I think. Also, I make sure names are removed.

Hi Paul,
Better clarity is provided to the student when an example is shared.

It is helpful to show students examples of the work they will be doing in the upcoming course, because it helps manage the student’s expectations. By providing an example, this allows the student to start a creative process in how they will approach the problem. It provides a catalyst for the student. Additionally, it can provide feedback for the student if there are questions about the work to be done.

Hi Deborah,

Students tend to grasp better when they are shown an example.

I try to always show examples to my students we have to learn so much in such a short time that by showing the students examples makes it so much easyer for them.

Hi Jennifer,
Students are more motivated to begin an assignment with they are familiar with it.

Patricia Scales

It is important for them to have the opportunity to take initiative to get a heads start so they feel prepared when that material arises. Give them a sense of familiarity.

Hi Cassandra,
It is fabulous! Less confusion takes place when examples are provided!

Hi Steven,
Students get it when they can see it!

Hi Denise,
Good examples provide great clarity. Students get a better understanding when they can have a visual to go by.

This something I have not done often enough in my classes, but will begin to incorporate more because it really helps the students acheive a better picture of what is expected.

i think its important to show examples it gives the a better outlooked on what the course is about

For some students it becomes much clearer for them when they have a visual example of some sort. This method can help to provide more details about coursework and what the students can expect to learn.

I agree, it makes the class more informative when you have good examples.
