It gives them a clearer view of what kind of work is expected from them.

I really wish we could display more work.

Hi Tavia,
Showing examples provide great clarity!

Hi Jennifer,
Super! I teach Pro-D as well, and I show my students a finished portfolio, therefore they know exactly what is expected of them. I love teaching this course, most students love it too!

I feel that showing examples will give them an clear idea of what is expected for that assignment and give them an general idea of how to formulated and start the process.

Work examples demonstrate to the student what the Instructor considers to be excellent or poor course work. I believe this helps students understand Instructor expectations about work quality, so they are not surprised by the grades they subsequently earn. It also gives them a sense of the amount of time and effort that may be required (both in and out of class) in order to achieve and sustain a certain grade level. It may also help them realize early on if they may need additional assistance in a particular area.

examples set the pace for what is expected. If the student can see what is expected, he/she will be able to perform the task better, with guidance.

I feel that it is very helpful to show the students examples of the work they will be doing in the class. This will help them to actually see a finished product which helps them see what is actually required of them. For example in my professional development course, I gave them examples of good resumes as well as "bad" resumes and made them look over find the mistakes and make the proper changes necessary. This way, they were familiar with what it should look like, and what it shouldn't look like.

Hi Jimin,
I concur! Examples add great clarity for students. Students have a better understanding by seeing an example.

Showing examples can relate to their situation and can focus or motivated better on subject. Even though student might have a glance at the course, but specific examples can give them better understanding of the course and focus.

I feel it let's them get a mental challange of something they herd of doing or told they will be doing, and now it's the time to get started for themselves.

I believe it does help the student understand what is expected of them in the course, as well as what the work is to look like. It sets the expectations early on what type of work the student should be handing in during the course. It also helps visual learners to actually see what they will be doing, rather than just hear about it.

to get them prepaired

will give them to think about it

so they could what they would be doing

Hi Kellie,
Students get a better understanding when they can see a visual as to what is expected of them.

I love this idea. I teach in the health and wellness field and don't always have the opportunity to be in a classroom setting. But when I am, I think showing examples of good work vs. bad work gives them an idea of what is expected of them.

Hi Brian,
Practice makes perfect! Continue to lead by example and push your students hard.

It helps for them to be prepared for real world senarios. As far as my school we teach welding and I weld demos for the students to show them what is expected for the to succeed. Most of them have high expectations of them being sucessful when they firs start but are soon to relize that it's not easy. This is why I say you practice what you preach! Practice!!!

Hi James,
I concur! Students seem to have a better understanding once examples are shared.
