Hi Stephen,
Examples are really straightfoward and to the point. Students tend to get a better understanding after being shown an example.

On the first day of class I show new students samples of work done by students who have already taken the same course. This gets the new students motivated and excited about the ideas they may have for that particular project. This is a great way for students to learn about there career field.
I agree. I think showing them examples helps them see what is expected by you.
Hi Michael,
Students really do become motivated, encouraged, and inspired by seeing an example
Hi Roberta,
Visuals really add clarity for assignments/projects. Students get a better understanding by seeing an example.

Hi Dennis,

Hi Barbara,
Showing examples of work is certainly a great conversation piece for students. It also provides encouragement as well as confidence.

Hopefully, It will get them interested in getting started in the class. Also, it will make the coursework more familiar as they progress. It is also a good way to break the ice, to give the students something in common to talk about.
I would show the class examples of other students work to inspire them. In classes we present a brochure for our salon, complete with a price listing and description of services.
To motivate and give ideas they may use to enhance performance. Often a visual will go much further than an explanation. I keep projects from previous classes and find they often give students that"spark" that challenges them to exceed the project observed.
To be clear in the expectatins and requirements of the course. To stimulate the student to learn by knowing what they can do for a project/paper. N example of what might be an expection they can complete
I think it would be helpfull in getting them motivated about the course and also open up some question and answer time that might help involve the entire class.
By showing students examples they will discover the relevancy of the course. This will help with motivation. It also provides credibility to the instructor as an expert in the field.
So that they can see not only what is expected of them but also the level of work that is expected. Examples of both excellent and sub-par works are necessary to create a concrete image of what is required of them.
Putting past work on the bulletin board is good. That allows plenty of time, no pressure, for students to see what's been successful before.
It's helpful to show students examples of the work they will be doing in the course because it allows students to understand what type of work is expected and limits surprises.
That is a great idea! We do that when the students are in their clinical practicums, we show them what their case studies and their research paper should look like. We also put past students work on the bulletin board to show some of the ideas that students come up with to write papers on.
By showing examples of student work, the students can see what is expected in terms of length, format etc. By viewing these examples they can then begin to view how their assignment will be done.
That's a great idea--showing examples of past outcomes. I know I was one of those students who would tend to overthink and make things harder than necessary if I couldn't see an example.
