The main thing that we focus on at our institution is to make sure that the candidate/students have an understanding of the process here at the school. To ensure that this is the case it is important to ask them if they understand and of course if they do not, be sure to explain. The terms we use are very similar to what has been previously discussed but we also use others for example; candidates, career plannning sessions, accreditation, Admissions Advisor, acceptance committee, etc...
We use a lot of terms and definitions such as Official Acceptance...which means that students have all application items in and the selection committee has selected the student for the term they want to start.
Inquiry...when a student has expressed interest in the school but has not applied.
Applicant...a student that has applied to the school.
Program, courses offered to potential students for a diploma from our institute
Enrollment Agreement, contract the potential student signs with our institute that covers terms of the enrollment prior to classes.
Enrollment, registering a student for a program with our institute and requires institute to provide training for the program.
I am new to the Admissions Representative World and this will be extremely helpful with keeping me on track and making sure to give every prospective student up to date information. I already have 'Staff Workbook' which really helps out, and this is taking it a step above.
The terms and definitions contained in this training are commensurate with the behaviors and work-place vocabulary being utilized within my organization. More succinctly, the terms accreditation and accrediting agency are widely used, not only throughout my organization, but as an industry on a whole. I believe that that these terms are common-place because prospective students are interested in knowing if the school they are interested in is accredited and by which accrediting body.
Thomas,
The rules are very comprehensive and are there to protect all.
I've added the "Commission For Independent Education Index". It was very interesting to see how all the compliance rules effect every department, throughout the whole college.
Jose,
Both the enrollment agreement and the receipt of the school catalog constitutes the binding contract. Your enrollment agreement should state that.
Lori,
Any statistics must be backed up by reliable sources. Adding disclaimers can protect the school.
Kettia,
Definitions are key to talking about the same subject. Making sure they are clear and informative is important.
Jose,
The marketing materials is a great addition. Having ad slicks will let you see what they are seeing.
The most commonly used terms at my institution are:
Commission -The CIE protects Florida's consumers by proving regulatory supervision of post-secondary institutions operating in the state of Floria.
Enrollment Agreement - is a legal binding document that must be signed by all applicants to the institution as well as by the school authority. the contract forms the agreement and provides disclosure that informs the applicant of policies of the school, and by them signing indicates that they have acknowledge the terms.
Program - a group of courses taken to attain mastery of a body of knowledge or skills and leading to attaining a certificate, diploma or degree.
Placement and how much can be made after graduation. Cost of tuition and state testing is another big factor.
A Resource Notebook is a key component for any Admission Advisor. They are two things that I will be adding, one is about the statues, and two marketing materials. I find that it is important to know what information is being sent out to new prospects.
class starts- when is our next class date starting
graduation- when student going to graduate.
Cynthia,
This is true. Some employers will not accept less than a high school or equivalent. It is important research for your employment market area.
Amy,
Glad to see you are making the notebook work for you. Review the older posts for great suggestions from other schools.
Meisy,
Do the employers require a high school diploma for employment of your graduates?
eventhough it does offer them an opportunity to integrate themselves into school, you should encourage them to obtain a high school diploma as well. This too is very important as well.
We have placed our catalog, enrollment agreement, our license, accredidations, marketing plans, Employee manuals , student handbook, job descriptions, organizational charts, and employment availabilities.
The resource notebook was a great way for us to make sure that all our information was upto date and organized. with being new to this type of format we also where able to go in and create some of the details that where missing.
