I am learning quite a bit so far. I have learned that our titles cannot include the word "advisor".
Francisco,
An excellent and indepth post. We can see the importance your school places on definitions.
Britney,
That is good news! Definitions are so important to ensure we are speaking of the same.
I have added the definitions to my Resource notebook. I found out that things I thought I knew the definitions to, I actually needed a refresher! I found out that my organization places a strong emphasis on quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction!
Mrs. Patty:
Receive my greetings. Some of the most important terms in the institution where I work and it is clearly necessary to handle are:
- Pensum Study: Compendium of all the materials that make up the career or major courses that the institution offers.
- Training Program: Degree programs that are available in undergraduate and graduate.
- Orientation: All students to enroll in Florida UNAD first discuss their personal goals, as well as program requirements and course, with officials of the University.
- Enrollment Forms: UNAD documents contain the necessary information from the student so that he can enroll at the university. It must be completed in its entirety in legible form and must be signed by the student.
- Entry requirements: A set of documents that are required by the institution to give admission to prospective students.
- Top School: Administrative Software allows the registration of students and enrolled students that are opting for a collage degree at the institution.
- Newsletter: Material information that is sent to students and enrolled students, that contains material about registration procedures, registration requirements, enrollment dates, educational opportunities and programs offered by the institution.
- Homologation: Is the recognition that the institution, through the relevant School, gives the subjects taken by a student at another college or university in an academic program.
- Grade Point Average (GPA): Is a calculation of the average of all of a student’s grades for all semesters and courses completed up to a given academic term.
- Admission: Is the development of the steps that a prospective student must meet to formally join as a student of the institution.
- High School diploma: Document of having completed primary education.
- Bachelor Diploma: Document of having completed primary education.
- Nondiscrimination Policy : Admits students of any nationality, race, gender, gender orientation, ethnicity or religion and granted access to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally agreed or available to students. UNAD Florida does not discriminate on the basis of nationality, race, gender, gender orientation, ethnicity or religious affiliation in its educational policies, scholarship and loan programs or other programs it administers.
- Privacy Policy: All information provided by the student is for the exclusive use of the University for academic purposes. Florida UNAD does not share information with third parties unless permission is granted clearly written by the student.
I keep putting in my personal folder, the most important definitions of the contents of their position. I started making this folder by placing the organization's mission and vision of the institution. I'm putting these concepts and functions that I must meet in an orderly manner. It also assists me on my daily tasks, making my performance more efficient, which shows on my daily results and accomplishments.

At my institution there are several common terms that we define and use during our admission process. One term unique to us is the WITY form, What is important to you? We use this form to gather information about prospective students and determine what qualities they are looking for in an institution. Through this WITY questionaire we determine if they would be a good match for our school and if so which program bests fits their interests.
I use catalog a lot, as this is what i refer students to, for when they have questions after the fact.
At our institution we have a "training manual" that we give each new admissions employee. We update this manual at staff meetings as policies and procedures change. We want to make sure our manual (recourse notebook) is as current as possible, otherwise it will loose affectivness.
Brian,
It is very important to clearly state which fees are nonrefundable.
We use the following terms as we partner with a student to both educate, and guide them through the admissions process.
1. Need(s) -- What is it that the student is interested in accomplishing by attending our institution
2. Concern(s) -- What is / are the major issues that the student feels need to be addressed so that they will feel comfortable learning more about our instituiton
3. Action Plan -- What are the key actionable items that have been identified by the student that we must take care in order for them to have all of the information and materials required for them to make an informed choice about attending our institution.
Craig,
CIE specifically references certification or licensure required by the student to practice in their field, e.g. Nurses must be licensed by the state.
Craig,
Use both statute and rule for definitions by the Commission. Every isnstitution has definitions of their own. Make sure that your definitions match those within the industry. For example, retake and repeat have very different meanings but are often used interchangeably to the confusion of the student.
Joanne,
You have added new definitions!
Shan,
No, it is not part of the on-site visit requirement. It is, however, your guide in preparation for the visit.
Jaida,
It should be the most used book on your shelf.
Teresa,
Our consumers are becoming more savvy about the education they are pursuing. Accreditation is very important but they need to understand the accreditation process. There are many bogus "accrediting" bodies out there.
Gustavo,
Feel free to personalize and add additional resources.
Casndace,
Those are very important terms which the students need to understand fully. Many confuse the term accreditation with licensure.
