Some of the commonly used terms and definitions at our institution are Accreditation-when the programs an institution has to offer is approved by the US Dept of Education. Enrollment- When we register a student in one of our programs or enroll them in a course.Enrollment Agreements- Once a student has been accepted to the institution, they are given an enrollment agreement to read and sign which legally binds them to our institution. It lets them know about important policies our institution has, etc. Scholarships- Our institution offers an academic and a financial needs scholarship to individuals. If approved for a scholarship, it will help with partial or complete costs of a program.

We use the following terms: Inquiry - prospective students that are interested in our school. Application Deadlines - a date in which the application is due to be considered for a certain term. Enrollment Agreement - contact between the institution and the student. Prerequisites - courses required before gaining admissions. Grade Trend GPA - grade point average for the last 45 hours of class. Prerequisite GPA - grade point average for the courses we require.

Bettina,
You are off to a great start.

Emmanuel,
It is your personal guide to compliance.

Emmanuel,
Make the notebook your own. Start with the basics and add any additional material that you feel adds to your reference.

Emmanuel,
The resource notebook can be your best friend! Work together for the best possible outcome.

Caroline,
Accreditation is voluntary and states you meet additional requirements in addition to the state.

Janine,
The forums are very informative and share best practices between schools. Glad you are finding them useful.

I am new to the Admissions position so have gleaned much in a short time in reading the Forum threads. Our institution is in it's infancy and we have worked hard on the marketing aspect to get the word out about our unique student benefits. Our semester is an accelerated 8 week term. Transcripts are certified from the original institution. By reviewing all the definitions we have complied in every aspect. I look forward to reading more from all of you.

I have printed out the rules and regulations as well as the vocabulary. I will assemble the notebook and use it as a tool so that I may always stay current with the industry in general and especially with my institution!

Hello Patty,
Will the resource notebook a personal tool or will it be shared with the commission?

Emmanuel

Hello Patty, What information not to be included in the resource notebook?

Emmanuel

As you stated, the resource book can used for any information or document that a prospective student would need.
Emmanuel

Hello Patty, I enjoyed the information posted on resource notebook. I think that it could be a valuable tool to organize important information.

Martha,
Thank you for your post!

Beatriz,
Thank you for your post!

Jason,
It is important to distinguish between tuition and fees when calculating refunds.

Selimah,
Accrediting bodies require that you operate for a number of years before seeking accreditation. It is a voluntary, expensive and very time consuming process. It is worth it!

Brittany,
Excellent practice!

Nancy,
Definitions are so important in order for the student to understand often complex verbiage.
