A political subdivision operates as part of a larger group. For education in Florida, all schools operate under the Department of Education. Schools are then divided into two groups: those that are funded or partially funded by the legislature and those who are not. A political subdivision is one of that is part of a larger group of schools which receive state money. A community college is a political subdivision of the Colleges and Universities under the Florida Department of Education.
