Christopher,
Exactly! Honesty, integrity, and ethics are the pathway to great success.

Adrian,
Very true! It is a consumer protection agency that not only protects the student, but also the school. Compliance is the key.

It is my responsibility to provide an applicant with information that is accurate so that their decision to apply is based upon facts. The more they know the better their decision will be.
I always like to encourage students to use the labor dept but I someone in the field of cosmetology can also give a wealth of information.
The Commission for Independent Education will help me stay in compliant with the Commission guidelines.
The CIE Requirements definitely cause me to be on my toes, and remind me to not make promises that can’t always be delivered upon. If we do what is always in the best interests of the student and their success and their pocketbook, then ultimately we will be taking care of the interest of the college as well.
The Commission for Independent Education is a guide and outline that protects the consumer, and provides you the do and don't of the industry.
Similar to the rules and regulations of other regulated industries, such as banking, airlines, and mortgages.
Jason,
It is the only way to do business. We would expect the same if we were in the reverse role.

Karen,
You are giving great tips here. I encourage every student to keep their own personal portfolio of information. Having it in one place is important.

Compliance is everything at my institution. Our calls and emails are audited and we get training very often. School is an important decision and how financial aid is handled is also very important to our students. It is our responsibility to explain things in detail as well as making sure that they know where to look things up online. I have noticed that often students don't read or look things up on line. The problem is that students have to take in so much information in a short time, that they always forget something vital. I always like to have them pull up their NSLDS report and explain how it works. I encourage them to look at the NSLDS report at least 2 to 3 times per year. When I call and check on them I always try to give out a tidbit. But the reality is that students don't retain enough of the information concerning Financial Aid, fees, and policies etc. We have included quite a bit of the information in our first few Freshman Classes, but anyone who starts with over 24 credits is not going to get that information. Does anyone else have other ideas on ways to make sure that we not only inform our students, but that they retain that information?
It affects our job in positive ways in that, we act with honesty, integrity, and ethics. We have to provide accurate information so that our prospective students can make that informed decision.
Ian,
Ethics and honesty is the only path to take. It is reassuring that we have done the best possible, especially when it affects others.

Stephan ,
Well stated! Compliance is important for success on all levels. We should always strive for compliance.
Patty Aronoff
Corretta,
Absolutely! It goes hand in hand providing confidence.

I feel that the guidlines help me in being a more effective admissions reprentative and I can hold my head up high knowing that I have helped soemone and have been ethical and honest in my delivery.
First and foremost, all statements from an admission agent or representative must comply with fair practices of business, and the rules of the Commission which, considering some agents are on a commission type monetary arrangement, is of utmost importance. It would be easy to lead students astray for monetary gain by unscrupulous agents/representatives, but the rules set forth by the Commsiion have strict code enforcement policies in place, which could bar the agent/rep from his/her profession for not adherring to the rules. The agents and reps abiding by the rules will make certain no exagerated claims or statements are included in the admission process, so students can properly acertain whether a program is for them or not. When sitting with a prospective student, the Commission rules will dictate the proper advice/explanation of the institutions programs, and give the agent/rep a defined road to follow in discussing the merits of any particular program, and the student will have honest and fair descriptions of the coursework offered, if the student can handle the course work, and the employment opportunities upon the completion of the course, all with the knowledge he was not led astray by a fast talking, less than honest salesperson. If the Commission rules are followed, everyone wins.
I agree with you. With health care changing everyday it is hard to give an accurate salary range for a Nursing Assistant. There are so many factors to concider; skilled nursing, hospital, home health, agency, ect. Then the shifts and the different shift differentials. It is too broad and too risky.
Yes they are have been very helpful to us, have not had a bad experience with them at all.
During my job i realize that I have to make sure that while I have a responsibility to my institution to follow all the necessary rules and regulations, I have an obligation to ensure that I am meeting the requirements and following the rules set forth by the CIE.
Damon,
CIE is a consumer protection agency and works for the protection of both the student and the school.
