In the subject matter of salary i refer to the BLS but as i talk to employers in the fields that we offer i get different numbers when it comes to salary. i suggest that students check all the different avenues that is available to them. check the BLS, check the internet in search in their local area, and don't be afraid to go and talk to Human Resources and ask about employment and salary.
The effects on my job are:
1. Provide accurate information to students.
2. Be aware of Fair Consumer Practices.
3. Being aware of Regulatory info and stay in compliance.
4. Fully understanding the schools policies and procedures.

There are guidelines established by the state of Florida that admission couselors must follow.
we need to ensure our actual operating practices do not conflict with ICE requirements and ensure we meet the standards necessary in order to maintain our licensing in the state of Florida.
they serve as a guide line. there are no gray areas when it comes to being a admissions representative/agent, there are rules to follow for the safety of the school and potential student.
I feel more confident with requirements set and guided. They are also helpful with any questions or concerns I have.
It affects my performance because I do not want to create any trouble for me, my school or students. If I do not conduct myself according to the correct guidelines- I am setting myself up for failure. I am constantly aware of any changes happening and take care to implement these changes in my admissions procedure.
This affects my performance in two ways. Number one- I want to be able to ensure my own job security by performing in an ethical manner. Number 2- I want to be able to ensure that any students I enroll are able to graduate with a valid diploma and have the best chance of finding a career.
It is important to obey the rules and regulations set forth by the CIE as well as your institution. Schools that practice unethical admissions practice are subject to lose their accreditation. Beyond that- the students that are enrolled under false pretenses are put in a terrible position.
The Commission for Independent Education requirements governs an institutions policies and practices. These rules and regulations are set to protect the public.
Institution are in place to enhance a students life through education. Institutions should strive to protect the public and follow the rules and regulations that the CIE sets forth.
The CIE effects all aspects of my position. I need to ensure the students have their credentials to participate and then again to graduate.
Kenya,
The rules are there to protect all.
Kimberly,
You are right! Reps should point them in the direction for research by verifiable sources.
It makes my job as an admissions representative a fair and fun opportunity all around. Having requirements from the CIE lets me know that someone other than me really cares and I'm doing my job with a purpose as well as determination.
The CIE requirements imply that as an admissions counselor I should be able to discuss job placement and salary with prospective students but this is an area that is highly subjective - especially in this employment market - it seems to be a safer bet to simply refer the student to the USDOL website and allow them to make the decision. Afterall, who would have predicted 3 years ago that unemployment would still be a 10%?
Jose,
Satisfactory Academic Progress is a very important aspect of school. Students must maintain a certain level of GPA to remain in school.
Patricia,
We should always be providing full disclosure for Fair Consumer Practices. There should never be any surprises.
An specific GPA average is set for each of the courses the student is required to take.
Because of the requirements, I'm obligated to provide full disclosure on many aspects when discussing enrollment info w/ prospective students such as: empolyment & salary earnings after graduation, transfer of credits to or from our institution, licenses/certification reqmt for employment after graduation just to name a few.
Janet,
The CIE operates as a consumer protection agency protecting both the student and the school.
CIE and accrediting agency requirements on institutions have the best interests of the student in mind. These regulations help us as admissions staff to present our institution and programs honestly and accurately to prospective students/parents. We may groan during the process of learning them, but once we own them as our own, we become valuable assets to the institution.
