First day in class

I have incorporated some of the methods discussed in this course, and i feel that giving information that is clear and to the point helps students feel like they have a clear pathway to having best chances of passing the course.

stress from co-workers

I have a very high standard in my classroom and I get stressed when other instructors have low work ethics, i.e. allowing the students to leave early every day. These ethics are taught to the students and spill over into my classroom where I have to deal with them. Any suggestions?

uninterested students

I also get stressed when a student or students don't show an interest in a subject or assignment that is crucial to the curriculum. This lack of seriousness really stresses me out but it's like talking to a wall. I've tried every technique to reach them but with little or no results. I usually gravitate to the students that do want to learn as a way to justify myself and relieve stress. Any suggestions?

Non-performance of students is also stressful.

I have some students who work hard and go above and beyond to meet all the requirements of the course, while others only attempt to meet the very minium requirements, and still others do not even meet the minimum requirements of the class. This adds a lot of strees on not only the instructor, but it also adds stress to the students. Adult learners get easily frustrated when they are paying a lot of money for a class and doing all they can to succeed when some students are impedeing the productivity of the class because of their poor performance. This adds to my stress as an instructor in addition to the stress of the students, and the negative spiral continues. I have started implementing consequences for poor performance and bonuses for good performance. It seems to be working well.

Organization

When I first became an instructor, I used to develop everything on my own. Then as time passed, at in-service training I started interacting with other online instructors and found they had material they used that could help me in accomplishing my tasks in a more efficeint time frame. I asked for copies of their material and looked at incorporating it into my systmes of teaching. I found that even though some were great methods, they just did not work for my particular style. So I have learned that there are great ideas and tools availiable to me and that it is important to be open to the ideas of those around me, at the same time realizing customizing their ideas to fit my style will make me the most efficient, best instructor.

Eliminating Stress Factors.

I like the coping mechanisms.Better health-less stress. At the very least mking stress easier to "cope" with.

What is stress?

This class was important in assisting me with finding out some of my stress levels in life. I found it helpful to write down the stressors in my life and prioritize them in and order of the most to least stressful.I have been able to eliminate some with better time management.

Making more time for you.

I have used the process of lecture preparation, finding better ways of organization, and able to accomplish my tasks more effectively.

The road to stress free living.

Who doesn't have stress? This course offered to good on how to eliminate certain stressors.

discipline

i like to mixe discipline and leeting this go little bet time to time , but when is time to be serious , it is time to get serious

Stress caused by coworkers

I am given little to no instruciton about how to complete my job from an administrative standpoint. I find it to be very stressfull to be told that I should have been doing something all allong when I have never been instructed by anyone to do so.

New Class Prep

I find it easier to prepair a daily schedule before a new class starts . It saves a huge amount of time throughout the quarter to complete all the other tasks that are required.

Student Participation

I have a difficult time with students who just show up everyday. They do little to no work while they in class and nothing outside the classroom. They have the "C" is passing mentality. I was never that student. At times, it's hard for me relate to these students. I feel I care more for their success than they do.

The road to stress free living

Taking this course has truley opened by eyes in finding ways to deal with the stressors that effect career college instructors daily wheather full-time or part-time.

Fear of looking unproductive

I am a pile person and in most cases I am aware of everything that is in my piles; however, I do have a fear of looling unproductive.

Setting Rules for the class

It si our responsbilty to set our rules on the first day of class, make sure it is written inside the class syllabus and post it on the class wall. Teachers should make their rules known to the student not after 2weeks of class, teachers has to be firm becasue students know how to manipulate their ways .

The worried Instructor

I've been teaching for over 8 months and everday I still get worried. I always, always make sure that I am prepared. From making copy's of my lesson plan, making sure my slides are in order, making sure I have the necessary writing tools. I am so prepared that sometimes I feel over prepared. I still worry that my students will not be able to grasp what I am teaching. I always allow time after class for the students to ask me questions about the lessons for that day.

Behaviors

whether you incounter a student that is quiet, loud, mean or just unhappy the instructor will be able to target those students almost immediately. These students might have issues at home which is why they are acting out. Whatever the case may be it will be worth the instructors while to find out why they behave the way they do so they can respond to their needs accordingly.

The discouraged student.

Students need encouragement. Especially in this day of age. They are having to deal with the constant change around them for example, our economy, unemployment at a high, world wars, religious difference. These things can impact a persons life therefore leaving them feeling scared for their futures. We need to be that positive person in their life which means constant praise. We as instructors can make a difference.

Ones own experience.

I find that when you use your own personal experiences to in getting some key points across it makes the student see you as one of them. I always manage to get my students attention when I tell them stories about myself. Of course I only use this information as it relates to the topic we are discussing.
