Hi David:
By consistently allowing students to have an idea of how they are doing in class, they have the chance to make changes in study habits as soon as possible. By doing this, they promote a more successful outcome for themselves by the end of the course.

Students need to know if they are understanding the material, if they need to contribute more time to studying. It can lead to a healthy competition, while speaking with other students, knowing how they're doing and wanting to do just as well, making themselves a better student.
It is important to inform students of status in a course because if they are not doing good in the class an it is midterm time they need to know what kind of grade they need to get in the class to pass. When I was in school I hated when an instructor took 2 weeks to grade a test. It left you in limbo wondering and sometimes the stress was to much just waiting. I dont want my students to feel that way.
The student can feel like he is progressing the way he should. The student can also seek tutoring if he's falling behind.
On a weekly basic I talk with the students about there progress and what they need to achieve the goals set forth for the class.
This keeps them informed, but at the same time I find out if they've been keeping track of there own scores.
The students that really care keep a close watch own there progress, and ones that don't, I encourage to do so.
one of the most important items for student as they progress

to help themsee their accomplishments or to show them how much more work they need to put in to reach their goals.
Hi Carol:
In response to your question, one thing that may work well with reviewing SLOs on a regular basis is to write out the daily objectives (that correlate with the overall objectives) on the white board each day.
Additionally, the instructor might review these daily objectives both at the beginning of the class, and at the end.

Hi Annette:
Hopefully, in this situation, the student will have the forethought to schedule tutoring and/or speak to the instructor more during office hours.
