I believe it is important for an instructor to be organized and prepared for each class to show students you are "on top of your game," that you know how to run a class, and be leader/role model for them.

I agree with you Janet. To earn the students' respect, an instructor must set examples of the desired behavior. As with raising children, you are best viewed as an example by your actions, not your words.
Organization is important, it allows the instructor to focus on the content and teaching methods. It portrays professionalism and the relevance of the material, which will provide an atmosphere conducive to learning. Students will have more respect for an organized instructor and be more engaged in the learning process.
teachers are always tested by students.
A student must know that the teacher has it together
your students will quickly pick up if you are
not ready-hurts class morale
If the students see that the instructors are not organized and prepared, they might lose faith or won't take the class serious.
Being prepared and organized are essential to a smooth presentation that grabs the attention of the students. Disorganization and unpreparedness merely serve to distract the student and do not encourage learning on the part of the students.
It is also my obligation to present the best material in the best manner of which I am capable. This is the right thing to do and also shows appropriate respect for my employer.
Lastly, doing a good job with teaching also gives me good feelings about myself and my skills.

Lead by example! If the instructor is never on time and never preapred we are teaching our students to be the same when it comes to career responsibilities and life! I always like to be in the classroom about a 1/2 hour ahead of class to get prepared, equipment turned on, and it gives me an opportunity to talk to the students and get an idea of where they are at academically, personally etc! It lets them know I care!
I learned one element of staying organized the hard way: Always be prepared for more content than the lesson your teaching requires. Make sure to have content or activities ready for the times you get finished sooner than expected.
I have always felt that first impressions are important and I always want to maintain that professional image for credibility with the students. I feel if you are perceived as in control it increase the respect that the students have for you. I am a disorganized person by nature but work hard at keeping things in order, because I know how important it is.
Organized and prepared. The two key words to starting any venture or job. Your clients (the students) can tell when you are. They will respond by becoming more prepared to receive. With teaching, I prefer to call it "instructing", when te student receives the instructing that has been organized and prepared, they will receive it the organized and prepared manner the instructor designed. At that moment learning begins to take place.
Students will know if the instructor came to class prepared or not. Some instructors tend to "wing" it which is not fair for the students who take the time to be in class to learn; not to mention the money they pay for good quality education.
Being organized and prepared make the instructor feel knowledgeable and in control. Instructor is able to present himself/herself professionally and gains respect from the students.
The whole idea promotes confidence.
Simple take a look at previous classes you taught ,try to see where you would like to have your students at a certain part of the semester , make up the assignments, and get to work, if you are a new instructor ask another instructor for some input .You should at least have somebody give you some form of an idea this way most of the studies and paper will be ready for you
to make yourself an example to the students
It shows the students you are organized and care about the time you spend with them. It should be quality learning time, not administrative paper shuffling time. However, even though I'm prepared with all the test copies, class notes, assignments, and the class schedule, I have two classes that are ten minutes apart. I try to be in the classroom at least 30 minutes before class if possible. How do I handle the limited time to get prepared for the second class?
If a teacher appears bored or complacent with a class how can a student be expected to be interested in the class either. Enthusiasim is key. Organization and being prepared a must.
It shows your students that you are ready for them and gets you rolling on the subject at hand
Being organized allows class to move along smoothly. Without organization, the students may not have the same faith that the instructor knows what he/she is talking abaout.
I agree, if you are not organized and prepared, how can you expect your students to be. Plus, as instructors, we must remain flexible so that we can be prepared in the event that something changes unexpectedly.
Try to think back to when you were in class,it was frustrating to show up to class and have to wait on the instructor. I do my best to be prepared and get the materals covered so if they have questions they can be answered at the end of class along with some review questions to capitalize on the subject matter.
