Hi William:
Great. When I'm prepared, it shows the students I care about my profession, the class, and the students performance and learning. It can help build trust, and trust can help lead to respect. When students respect their teacher, they'll be open to learning from them.

Hi Jennifer:
With thorough preparation, students will see the teacher cares about their job and the students education. That helps build trust, and may contribute to respect for what the teacher has to impart as well.

Hi Jennifer:
Yep, we do set an the example and then some. When prepared, I'm ready for the class in every way. Media, resource material, lessons, questions, etc. Preparedness also convey competence, and to students, that gives them confidence in thei abilities of theior instructor.

I totally agree with this post.The first class I go over the syllabus plus I given them a calendar of what to expect each week.In addition I go over what is expected for the next class and write it on the board.This way there is no excuse.
Two words: Role model! Some of the best education you can provide as an instructor is to to the best role model possible! If you are organized and well-prepared, your students are more likely to respect and emulate you and your positive attributes.
It is important to be prepared for class because the instructor is setting the example for the students. If the instructor expects students to come to class leady to learn with the right materials then instructors must set the example and do the same. This will allow the instructor to represent their seriousness about teaching the material and will also show that they respect the students time.
As instructor I feel it is my responsibility to emphasize to the students how important it is to have a goals for their lives and once they have the goals,they must organize their lives and work to reach their goals. If I come to class and I am not organized and prepared, it is very difficult to sell the students on the importance of organizing and preparing for their lives.

Hi Katheryn:
When I'm organized, I have put thought, planning, time, and effort into making sure everything is ready, class runs smoothly and relaxed, and any materials needed are readied. This shows the students I care and it's important to be ready. I like to be the first one to class, straighten up (if needed), and just "be there" for students - to chat informally, answer a few questions, or give encouragement and personalize the teacher-student relationship.

Hi Jack:
This happens at times. This where having a good back up plan that is easy to add, low tech (in case equipment is not working or unavailable, can be initiated on short notice, and is relevant to the course content (so students don't feel as though your just filling time).

Hi Jack:
Concur. A checklist, although simple, conveys the basic themes or topics that need coverage. Timing these to allow for different learning styles, student needs, course content, and assuring competency can require some planning to avoid the "not enough time" or "too little time" situations that can occur without planning, effort, thought, and time allocated for mapping the course segments into realistic divions or components.

I agree with Nancy about the fact of measuring the lessons against the course objectives. I found using a checklist of course competencies help the students to understand where they stand in the course.
Being prepared to teach also requires a lesson plan longer than one class. This allows for adjustments to be made for a class that can cover the lesson at a faster pace.
So the students will know that you have their best interest at heart, when it comes to providing them with the best course of your ability.
it will show the students that you take this course seriously and will exspect the same from them
I agree with what the others have been saying.
To demonstrate responsibility to your students. You should be a role model to them so they will momic this in their profressional life.
Hi Laurel:
If I've done my job well, then I'll have spent time, effort, thought, and planning preceding my lesson delivery. Students will notice when there is a prepared teacher in fron of them. And I believe they want to be receive direction and guidence, even if they "appear" like they don't like extra work.

An instructor has to be organized and well prepared for the class in order to implement the lesson plan in accordance with course objectives. When you organize the work, you also organize other areas, such as:
=================================================
Time Management
. Lesson Plans are where the time management
skill kicks in strongly. I list my
activities and assign a time to each
(10 min.) (30 mins., etc.)
This way I know I am on track during the class.
=================================================
Course Management
. I peridocially assess the course objectives
against the lesson. I also insert topical
material - real world examples to illustrate
points. However, I have to keep coing back
to the basic tenets of the course to ensure
that I do not veer off as well.
==================================================
Student Behavior
. If you keep them busy, then the bad behavior
goes away. It is harder for the students to
misbehave when engaged in a task. Also, group
work helps to alleviate this probelm as well.
I always try to have interesting group work,
or thoughtful individual work to keep students
on the academic path.
=================================================
Learning Moments
. I find that if you are well prepared, the
organization flows through the class, and,
allows time to savor those "learning moments."
==================================================
Students appreciate an organized teacher, one who gives back work in a timely manner, manages the activities well, and creates an atmosphere of order.
We all go back to our grade school memories and call up images of yore. These images translate to the returning adult student, who now, not only expects the same order, but expects that order to be delivered in a higher level format.
Getting adults used to being back in school again, is the goal. If you are organized, adult students will appreciate, respect and feel comfortable in a well managed class.

Being organized and prepared is crucial not only in the classroom but in every day life . Good time management helps the day to run alot smoother and helps with stress reduction also. An organized teacher makes an organized course. This in turn helps the student's transition through the course alot smoother. Hopefully, it will also reflect on to their day to day living as well.
