Hi Heather:
Yeah, when we are prepared and organized, it's like we're ready and open for business. We have our materials, lessons are planned, media checked and operational, handouts copied. Even in class eraly to set up the room and greet students as they enter, to chat, or answer or ask questions - just being there for them.

These action and many others suggest time, thought and planning went into this class and the students will appreciate the effort.

Because if the teacher is not organized, the students will feel that structure is not necessary. I have made the mistake of procrastinating about organization and then it was difficult to maintain structure amongst the students as the semester progressed.

It allows you to be relaxed and confident in what you are presenting. Makes it easier to respond to questions/discussion yet stay within the class content. Sets the class atmosphere for the day.

It is important to be organize & prepare to class so that students will be more focused & will take the class seriously.

It's very important for an instructor to be organized and prepared for each class because it shows the students you are committed to their learning and understanding of the material. It shows professionalism. It helps to keep the class on track and to progress through the material without leaving any information out.

Hi Maribeth:
Yes, we can be role models in a lot of way, including being prepared.

When a stuednt comes to class, sees it's set up, arranged, and the teacher has all the handouts, exercises, prepared lessons, and plans times for questions, delivers the material in a relaxed, calm manner, this is a terrific learning envrinment for students.

Hi Taylon:
Well, flwless instruction would be an admirable quality! But I get your meaning. Preparation means being ready for the class and that can only happen with thought, planning, time, and effort. Students recognize when a teacher is prepared, and it makes for improved learning.

Hi Christopher:
There are so many steps involved with great preparation - arriving early is one of them.

Some teachers schedule is very tight and moving from one class session lession to another leaves little time. But if there is time, being in class before students arrive, setting up the room, gathering your resourcses, handouts, notes on the board, and making sure your media is working contribute to preparation.

This also allows the teacher to spend a few moments with students as they arrive - to chat, to answer or ask questions, or just to make conversation. These suggest the the teacher is interested.

I agree that being prepared for class is essential to student success. The expectation for the student to be prepared, is set by the instructors preparedness.

it is important to be organized and prepared for each class so the information is delivered accuratly and without flaws

Hi Cynthia:
Prepared for me means ready. Ready with lessons, teaching aids, media, handouts, worksheets, etc. It also means ready by being there early to get class ready, greet students as they appear and possibly answer a question or two, and role model the benefits of getting to class on time.

Hi Connie:
I think students come to classes with all kinds of varied expectatations. When we are prepared, we are posed to set an example of being prepared, delivering pertinent content, utilizing relative media, and demonstrating personal expectations for our students.

Although some classes have students that whine, I believe most want direction and guidelines. We can provide that in our readiness. When we're prepared, we're ready to provide what our students need.

being prepared for the requirements of a new class can be challenging, this is why i usually arrive early on the first day to ensure there are enough materials for students and the lab is set up correctly. This helps set the tone and ensures a seamless transition from orientation to lesson modes for me

That is also a good point

It demonstrates that you a prepared

It sets a professional example for your students, encourages students to engage in productive classroom time and it also maintains a standard within your class.

Hi Jennifer:
Prepared means ready. And ready means there has been a thoughtful process that preced the class in order to gather resources, plan the lesson, make sure all teching aids are set, copies, handouts, and assignments have been readied.

Now, when the student comes to class and sees the teacher has everything laid out, they're going to begin to expect being prepared is an important trait for the student because they see it is with the teacher.

Hi David:
When teachers prepare and organize they demonstrate their commitment to their students by the time, effort, thought, and planning that goes (or not) into the delivery of a well designed presentation. The stuednts can tell, and theu'll tolerate a little laxity, but they'll also likely not be as motivated to do their best either.

There is nothing worse than an instructor that comes unprepared to class. It sets the mood for the class and normally has a negative effect on the students.

It is important to be organized and perpared for class because it tells the students that you as the instructor feels the class is important and that you care about the class and your students.
