It is extremely important that the instructor is focused and prepared for class in order to deliver the class content with knowledge and efficiently. Not being organized can make someone become in shambles and fumble and makes the instructor look like they should not be teaching subjects that they are not prepared for. Organization is key, being prepared is also key to sucess.

Gives you instant credibility withthe students...shows they are important and facilitates learning.

Organization is a big part of professionalism. If the teacher/instructor is always ready and prepared he/she will immediatley set a standard for students.

Hi Michael:
Good points. Planning a logical, sequential "flow" takes time, effort and thought to pull off successfully. To have the resources ready when needed, lessons planned with handouts or class exercises, and a clam and relaxed delivery (which promotes same among students) will only happen with careful forethought and readiness.

Some teachers are more natural organizers, while others have to work at it. Either way, organizing so students recognize the teacher care and appreciates the value of the students time and limited resources will be appreciated, and may contribute to improved trus and respect.

Hi Laudina:
A well prepared class does run smoothly. The teacher is calm and relaxed, ready to teach. If students arrive early, they are avilable to anser student questions beforehand. Topics transition from one topic to the next in a logical, sequential, planned manner. And resources needed are at hand and immediately available.

Sounds nice? Well, it doesn't happen automatically. The teacher has to time, effort and planning, and thought into making this learning environment successful. Without planning, it'd be rare that things run smoothly.

It makes the class go smoother when youh have all your materials prepared & ready. Coming into class disorganized sets the mood for the students and they become distracted & unfocused.

Hi Sabrina:
Very true. Also, our effectiveness is measured by both our self perceived idea of being ready and the students perception of readiness.

Having our lessons planned, resources ready, being available questions, and taking time for class delivery in a calm relaxed manner, transitioning from topic to topic - student's will recognize the time, effort, thought, and planning, which may contribute to improved respect and trust.

Hi Nedialka:
A well prepared teacher is ready for whatwver may occur during the class. They have more than enough material to cover the period. They are able to field questions - sometimes questions and their answers can occupy a large part of class.

But preparedness allows the teacher to cover what they want covered, emphsisize the needed points, and have the resources needed when that time comes. This is not going to happen by accident - the teacher will have to plan for these successful outcomes to take place.

It is a matter of respect and instructional integrity. Our students come to us for guidance and tools to help them become successful in their new endeavors. It would be unethical to come to class unprepared and we would be setting a dangerous precedent. We are the professionals, we need to set the example.

It is important because it sets a good example for students and also helps you to use class time efficiently.

It is important to be organized for class due to the time frames of classes as well as the students time restraints.
An organized class has a flow and a rhythm.
Students what to know what is happening next minute, next hour next week.
Flexibility also has to be a part of the organization.

Hi Dan:
Preparation can lead to providing an exciting learning environment but it's not automatic. Thought, planning, time and effort are required to assure the teacher is ready to deliever an enthusiastic and exciting lesson. Without these, the lack of preparation will show.

Hi Durrell:
When teachers are prepared, they provide an optimal learning environment for their students. Ready for questions, smooth transitions, resources available - more elements conducive of improved learning and retention of information.

Hi Richard:
Right - a prepared teacher is ready with the lesson, questions from students, has gathered teaching aides and resources, and provides a nices calm and relaxed teaching environment. Students will learn better when the teacher is prepared.

As a student I am always assessing just how organized and prepared an instructor is. From the first class to the last the instructor "sets the stage" for my learning enviornment. While they may be very knowledgeable they are going to have to prove it if they seem unorganized and unprepared at the beginning. Unfortunately, they may not have the time to win me back during that class period. As an instructor, being organized and prepared is a must. It enhances your credibility and facilitates learning.

Not only is it important to be organized and prepared to teach because it is your job and there are students looking to you to lead- it is good to be in order to keep your own sanity. Of course there are always times that things don't work out as planned and you might have to try something "off the cuff" either to get back student interest or because of some unforeseen problem- but having a game plan and structure for each class should be what you consider to be your own requirement. Nothing loses student interest more than an instructor shuffling through papers trying to remember what he was going to say, or in my case as a cooking instructor, rifling through a cook book trying to find the right recipe. It makes you look ill prepared (which you are) as well as ill suited to be teaching the course. And believe me, you will be a happier instructor if you feel more prepared and organized.

it gets the students excited

to continue smoothly and sstudentssee a constant progression

gives the students a sense of confidence in the instructor and abilities.

Hi Anna Marie:
Things just go better and smoother when we're prepared. The class is relaxed if the teacher is relaxed. There's time for interruptions, repetition, or student questions if needed. Students appreciare the readiness and order of a well prepared class.
