Today, more than ever, we have a responsibility to encourage and motivate students to prepare for their future and recognize education is a life long process. We have an obligation to society to recognize people need advanced education to be more competitive and encourage students to not only continue but complete their education and instill in students the confidence and quality of knowledge that makes them highly productive members of society.
The goal of educating students is to ensure that they are prepared for the work force bothe academically and professionally.
To teach students the skills that they will use in their future careers.
More importantly is how students respond if they make the mistakes. Imparting knowledge has many parts that go way beyond learning the skills. Some of these include realizing when you are wrong, admitting your mistakes, effectively communicating it, and working to fix the issue. Being able to accept the critic of your work and put that criticism to work for you is an important part of education.
I have a few goals when I teach my courses. Of course, I want to meet the class objectives that are developed as a part fo the curriculum. I want to instill the important of taking theory to practice. I do not want students to get hung up on memorizing facts but be great at being able to apply their knowledge. Lastly- I want to teach life skills in my classroom. My best, mot memorable instructors taught me more than the subject, but taught me how to be a professional, how to carry myself. They believed in my ability and nurtured me through my education. This resulted in a confidence of my abilities, I can effectively communicate with people and I welcome constructive criticism- because I always want to improve If I can accomplish these things with my students, I think I have been successful.
Hi Joel:
True. I would add that we also strive to "impart knowledge".
Regards, Barry
Hi Shawn:
That's a great idea. One way to drum this idea into our students would be to give them personal ideas about what we as instructors do to support this idea ourselves.

To prepare them in areas that will make them well rounded and use the skills in all areas of their lives and careers.
Yes, Theodore, education should make a student's life more enjoyable, more satisfying. I would also add that it should prepare them for the most humanistic evolution of life. That is why sharing our life experiences and how they apply to our profession/s--as well as sharing our passion for the subject matter--should be geared at infusing them with the well of their own passions in their own unique journeys...
The goal is to impart knowledge. It will empower students, people to move in a direction of change or forwaedness. It is not just to deliver facts and figures but to inspire those to think.
Education is a door way to a better chance at a better job. My goal for my students is for them to be able to go out and get a job that will improve their life and that of their families. I would also like to see them to understand that the jobs they have in health care are just the beginning.
they can continue their education and move up the latter both in skills and salariers.
Hi Edward:
How difficult it seems to try to compress this concept (the goal of educating) into a few short sentences! You've done a great job by highlighting part of that goal is to help others prevent making the mistakes we've made before.
Regards, Barry
The goal of educating students is to make sure that the individual is well informed and able to utilize what was learned.Educating students can be fulfilling to the educator, especially if whatever was taught was put into well meaning actions.
I believe that the goal of educating students is to make the students life more enjoyable and satisfying. We should try to prepare them for life. We can do this by supplying the student with the skills necessary that allow them to fit in and benefit our society. If we can achieve this goal our students will experience satisfaction, confidence and self-esteem.
Ultimately, the goal of educating students is to train the student to become the master. Through education, we are able to indicate and demonstrate the desired qualities of a master, and through training and feedback, the student is able to gradually understand and achieve those qualities. Without education, we would have no way to preserve and perpetuate the craft.
Hi Mary Jane:
Especially true when we're talking about career based courses.
Regards, Barry
Hi Mary Jane:
Great thought. In general, we might say the goal of educating is to "impart knowledge" with other criteria involving the learning environment. I often think of the word "nurture".
Regards, Barry
Hi Ashia:
Great discussion here! Can we as instructors as ourselves, "what do I want my students to be able to teach" as part of our lesson planning?
Regards, Barry
Hi Tierra:
Good! Other words we can use as part of the goal is to provide these concepts with a certain type of environment, and/or instrucotr personality. One word I might use is "nurture".
Regards, Barry
To give all the skills we can to students that want to learn all they can. I always tell students, "Everyone can learn a skill, but how you treat others really is what will bring you to another level."
