Hi Joel:
Ultimately, it's the impartation of knowledge. However, one can also consider what the student will use the information for as part of that goal.

Hi Jennifer:
That's very true - helping the student find the tools necessary for a career is one of the most important goals of education.

In general, the "impartation of knowledge" is the goal of education.

Regards, Barry

Hi Traci:
Especially if we consider what the student may do with that information we are giving them in their future.

This is especially true for learning sessions that have a direct impact on their career or job field.

Hi Patrick:
Very true, in order to best curtail our instructional methods, it depends on what type of environment we are teaching in.

The impartation of knowledge, regardless of the method is the ultimate goal here.

Regards, Barry

Hi Angela:
Right - and instructors can keep in mind what the student may do with that information in the future.

This is especially helpful if the student is learning something they will use in their careers.

Regards, Barry

For me the goal of educating students is to help them be successful in their career and life. This generation will be the ones teaching my children and grandchildren. Their success is what is most important to me and the goal is to help them be as successful as possible.

Hi Jane:
Great point. By thinking about what the student plans to do with the knowledge we impart to them can often times help keep the instructor motivated in the topic as well.

Regards, Barry

Hi Marshall:
Instructors might always consider the question, "what are my students going to do with this information"?

By doing so, we can relate our topics to real work situations the student might relate to.

Regards, Barry

Hi Christine:
As instructors, we often have to consider where a student is going with this knowledge, and what they're going to use it for.

This is especially true in specific fields that have a clinical nature to them.

Regards, Barry

Hi Elsie:

Some instructors find that using activities that can be compared to real world scenarios are an effective method of imparting knowledge.

Most likely, ANY technique that imparts knowledge can arguably be considered effective.

Regards, Barry

Hi Colleen:
Good! In addition, an instructor must always keep in mind "what will my students ultimately do with this information".

In some cases, depending on the class, this may have a direct result in what they do in their career.

Regards, Barry

Hi Marcia:
Strong point - this again illustrates the ultimate goal of teaching - imparting the information to the student.

What is equally important is keeping this in mind when navigating through tough material. Doing so may result in modification of lesson plans from time to time.

Regards, Barry

Hi Catherine:
True, if we're talking about healthcare. What about other environments?

Some instructors have the belief that there is a minimum concept the student should walk away with, and if they can demonstrate they have received that concept, then the learning has taken place.

Hi Shannon:
The future success of that student is a great way to look at this idea of the goal of educating students.

An additional consideration may be to relate the learning to the big picture for that student. What will they do with this content? Can it be related to their life in some way?

Regards, Barry

The goal of educating students is to insure the continuation of a qualified work force. I do not want to be working on my own car at seventy five or eighty years old just because there is no one knowledgable enough to do so.

The initial goal of educating students is to provide training in the skills needed for the course being taught. The training will give students a knowledge base from which they can broaden and expand their skills to find new ways of applying their knowledge to solve problems and find solutions. A second goal is to help students transfer their knowledge to other areas of life and realize the importance of becoming a life-long learner. Along the way in the learning process, it is great if students can achieve an “aha!” moment that allows them to see the value of what they are learning.

My goals would be to show the students how and why the materials being covered are appliciable to their career endeavers as well as with their personal growth and rearing of their children..Paul T. Rougemont

I teach Medical Office Administration, a six month program. The goal of educating students personally means that once my students leave to begin their new careers that they will be able to transfer their technical and soft skills to their workplace. That they have gain a diversity of knowledge, to be discipline mentally and intellectually, so that the purpose of their 6 month of intensive training will provide them their personal achievement and dreams come true. That this new stepping stone will encourage them to continue their education.

To prepare them for the future in their chosen field of study. Relating personal experiences to make the learning process as real life as possible. And, to hopefully encourage others to carry on as future instructors.

To me, the goal of educating students is giving them enough information and confidence in their knowledge that they can apply the knowledge in the real world.
