The students come into my class for dental assisting and to hopefully be able to use this skill for employment after they leave. The goal for educating students is to give them the necessary skills to advance themselves with hard and soft skills and to ensire them to further their education.
Dawn,
I think growth as individuals can occur if we can integrate critical thinking into our lessons. If students are able to think for themselves, we will have helped them be a success both in their career and personal life as well.

Maricar,
"Ready" can mean a lot of things. Obviously knowledge and skills are needed and also the soft skills that will assist in getting and keeping a job (professionalism, speech, dress, hygiene, punctuality, courtesy, etc.).
Barry Westling
Helping them learn a new skill and how to do it correclty in the work force. Helping then grow as individuals to realize they can do anything they put their minds to.
The main goal of educating students is to prepare them to be ready when they graduate
Bernadette,
Yeah, we can give facts and theory, but creating an environment that truley prepares students for their work setting elevates our instruction to a higher level.
Barry Westling
The goal to educating students is to set them on a path of a successful career (not just a job but a career that they can truly be proud of) that will enrich their life’s.
Stan,
Good, and if we can get them to be good at critical thinking, we will have given them a tool that will help them their entire work career, and even in their personal life.
Barry Westling
I want my students to be able to take the information I have provided to them and be able to go into the workplace to apply this knowledge.
Lisa,
To be truely successful, student really have to be able to think on their own, well beyond facts and skills that introduce them to their career choice. If we can accomplish that, we will have done our students well.
Barry Westling
Educating our students means we are opening there eyes and minds to new ideas and possibilities. It is helping them to learn more about themselves and how they interact with people, situations and ideas. When we educate our students they leave at the end of their program different then when they began. Yes,we teach them skills and tasks, we can even teach them the reasons/theory behind what and how we teach. But when we educate, we give them understanding. We give them the confidence to believe that they are capable. We give them permission to think for themselves.
Carl,
Good point. It's much like the "what's in it for me" principle. When students can see value in their lessons - something tangible they will be able to use on the the job in the work setting, they are more apt to ingage, pay attention, and be actively involved in their learning.
Barry Westling
The goal is to get students to embrace the learning idea. Then they can develop more skills and knowledge which can be applied to different situations,in different ways.
I believe students and not open to learning because they see no application with the knowledge. " Why do i have to learn this?" they say. In career colleges you get to show how knowledge is used.. and that is enjoyable
James,
Preparing students for a career means, for many, also preparing them for life since many don't have the professional, speech, manners, or work-associated courtesies that will be needed for success in the work setting. Also, teaching to think beyond just the facts and skills can help them immensely.
Barry Westling
My goal for my students is to not alone to teach them to apply what they have learned but also to reatain the information for future certifications.
April,
Great! I think our purpose is of course to provide the skills and knowledge needed for employment. Any additional helps we can give them will be appreciated by both student and employer. Professionalism, dress, speech, and business courtesies are among the soft skills that some students have a need for and their employability improved when we can share their benefits.

My goal is to have the students leave my classroom and be the best entry level employee in their field of study. We give them many hands on labs so that when they leave they have an idea what to expect. Many of my students have done very well and been hired right out of externship because we increased the hands on skills so that they are easier to train during the externships.
Linda,
Good. These days, competition for jobs is as strong as ever. Preparing our students with the needed tools they'll need is the least we can do. Also giving them learning and thinking skills will prepare them for a lifetime of better work opportunities too.
Barry Westling
My goal of educating a student is to make sure that they have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be successful in the work place. Also,to be able to compete with the best.
Try to understand waht are they and how the student can get them
