I always use a variety of ways of teaching,I lecture, demo, watch dvds and lab work, where they perform, then we discuss what we have learned.

If you know the learning styles of your students you can incoporate diffenent ways to deliver the information. Lecture, power point, hand out, group discussion, etc.

I find it very helpful to identify the learning style of my students, so I can taylor my approach of the material we are covering. I am fortunate in that I am a clinical instructor and can easily accomodate all learning styles.
I will review the concepts of the material with the entire group and then afford time to those who continue to need re-enforcement of the concepts. This is when I can focus on the particular learning style of the student and help convey the information to them in the manor that they best recieve and process.

Hi Sandra, Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, varying our delivery is the best way to ensure that we reach all of our students. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

By knowing the learning styles of students, I can plan how to deliver the material. I try to use many different styles every class and so far it has worked well. When students have a problem understanding they usually let me know they can't grasp what I am teaching.

Well, i try to incorporate or use daily routine tribulations that enable everyone to tackle daily situations and let the students see how it can be easier and less stressful

I have better communication with my students because I can engage them more effectively due to increased rapport knowing that they can grasp what I am teaching.

As an Instructor I bennefit greatly knowing their learning styles. It helps me tailor a lesson plan the will fit most everbody in the class, powerpoint, instructor led lecture, lab tasks to support the material. All this comes together and the students seem to retain the information or have a deeper understanding of it.

Hi Antonio, Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, definitely, we can fine tune our lesson plans to accomodate the diverse learning styles of our students. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Knowing the learning styles of each student helps you to connect the lesson plan or course to their style of learning. It keeps them focused and interested in the subject course.

Hi Shafi, No matter what class you are teaching, by varying your delivery you will reach all the learning styles. So, For a finance or Acct. class you could lecture a bit with a powerpoint, perhaps find a short video, maybe have students work in teams on a small project etc. Best wishes! Susan

As the clinical instructor, the lecture, visual, demo and handout are the strategies I most employed. I absolutely promote the team approach as an important strategy in the learning process. Which I think works.
Encouraging the students to attend the practice lab on a regular basis, can meet the need of the student
who requires more time to assimilate new information.

The novice instructor, presenting information using a single teaching strategy, should not be surprised when exam results reveal a 25% class failure rate.
The development of lesson plans which integrate the requirements of a variety of learning styles, will meet the needs of a greater number of students in the class.
The results of a learning styles assessment, before instruction begins, is an effective method to alert the novice instructor of the need to revise the teaching strategy.

I know my students very well by using the learning styles and improve for the class performance. Students retention will be increased for the class.

I can use variety of techniques for students assessment and retention for the course.

What about all accounting, finance and QMB classes? How to keep the retention for the class?

Hi Nicole, Thanks for your post to the forum. So many students come to higher education with no idea about their learning styles. When we help them to "connect the dots" it is thrilling to see how much better they can learn. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Hi Yoon Sik, Thanks for your post to the forum. It is indeed easy to get so wrapped up in your lecture that you forget to stop and ask for feedback. Good plan! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I have found that if I show examples of class models and learning systems early on in the course it helps the students identify how they should study. Some students struggle with study techniques until they realize their most effective ways to learn. This also helps me focus on each students learning needs and I can taylor my curriculum to fit how I need to present the material to them.
