Obviously, the CIE affect every aspect of my job. It pertains to my first contact with a potential student right up until that student graduates from our institution. This course showed me exactly how important a role CIE actually plays in my day-to-day activities including the language I use when speaking to student's and potential student's.
CIE requirements are established to make sure that our school meets the standards necessary in order to maintain our licensing in the state of Florida. At the individual level, it is important that we adhere to the standards in order to continue working in admissions. The CIE requirements help us provide quality information and good customer service to prospective students. Students shop around at different schools trying to find the school who offers the best possible program for the money that they will invest. CIE requirements insure that we will provide full disclosure and give them all of the information necessary to make an informed decision regarding our programs and enrollment in our school. The regulations can change from time-to-time, so it is important that we stay abreast of these changes to insure that our school stays in compliance with the CIE regulations.
The CIE requirements gives us the "right way" to do our job. It allows us to act and fucntion with honesty and integrity. It allows us to put it back on the potential student and paint a realistic picture.
When I give the information to prospective students, they often ask about financial aid. Although I provide them with certain information such as to surch for scholarships, surch for loans at certain institutions like Sallie Mae or their personal bank, I refer them to the financial advisor.
Among other topics, I also discuss with them the requirements to start the program, the registration fee, the tuition cost, the possibility to schedule a payment plan, the transfer credit policy.
The CIE requires that all admissions representatives complete approved training. This training is to ensure that we as admissions representatives provide prospective students with clear and accurate information which is compliant with fair consumer practices. Training includes regulatory information, best practice to stay in compliance, and methods to learn about our school policies, procedures, programs and services.
