Safety concerns in Lab

Time Management

I am new to teaching, but I am concerned about time management. I understand that each class will not flow the same and that not every student will be able to take in the information the same way. How do I balance my time if a majority of the class requires more attention to understand the content?

Using a Plan of Study

I make sure that I make a Plan of Study or Teaching Outline to make sure that I stay on schedule during the quarter, and to make sure I cover the required material on the syllabus.

Learning in a shop enviorment

Prior to getting hands on practice, we lecture , demo and discuss the tasks at hand. It is difficult to reach all students due to differant learning styles. I try to break items down to the pure basics and let those who need more input ask their questions. I can always tell who puts in the effort to learn a subject when we get to practice lab. I then target those who don't really understand the subject matter for one on one teaching/learning.

Learning Disability

Dealing with more than one student with learning disability, allowing them enough time is the most effective support system that helped them succeed. The first step is identifying which student has learning disability.

Organizing students into a group

Organizing students into a group can be chanllenging. After trying to have student self-grouping, which did not turn out so good. I found random grouping to be very effective for the most part. When few students don't seem to be happy, I encourage them by connecting this to a real life exprience situations redirect them.

Eye Contact

I found making a direct eye contact with each and every student during lecture not only keeps students engaged, but also helps me find out what is going on in the classroom. For instance, I see those students who have a tendency to exihibit disruptive behavior duing eye contact.
