asking questions

Asking questions is a great way to see if the class is grasping the material and leave opportunity for other students or yourself to elaborate on the subject giving everyone a better understanding by hearing how other student interpret what they got out of the material.

Young Students

There are times that younger students do not want to dig into lab projects. I like when i have a few older students because they can help to motivate the younger students.

Colors that stimulate thinking

What colors can cause a person to think critacally about an exercise? How can color be overused in a presentation? How can students be encouraged to use color in asking questions?

Staying on Schedule

Teaching a diverse group of students makes it hard to stay on schedule with the syllabus, do you have any suggestions for me to make sure that we have covered the material and stay on schedule? Priscilla Bamberg

Younger Instructor

I am a younger instructor and I feel as through I am not respected as much as the "older' instructors. I feel that I go above and beyond and my students still seem to have a level of disrespect for me. Priscilla Bamberg

Learners with Disabilities

Interesting topic. Having someone with a learning disability in class is not always has difficult as some people may think. If taken the time to understand the person together these challenges can be met with success.

Diverse Learners

I found this topic very interesting and enlightening. I enjoy the diversity in my classes and some of the challenges that it presents.

Student learning groups

I have had alot of success with this approach. Students have bonded better with their classmates and the idea of the project being done by a group was in general less stessful. There have been a few times when certain group dynamics created tension. With working closer with this group I was able to keep them back on track and was another learning tool for myself.

Communication Skills

I find this to be an essential part of my teaching. Students seem to express themselves better and are not timid when called upon. It makes for a more relaxed atmosphere in class making learning more conducive.

Tactile Learning Style

I am surprised that such a small percentage of students are tactile learners.

Meeting Class for the First Time

Tip#1 Be sure to write your name, contact information, and course name/number on the board.

new instructor

I am still fairly new to being an instructor and I have been doing it for about 6 months now. At first, I thought it would be easy but I soon found out that this was not the case. It was a learning experience for me as well as the students. Doing these online courses and with help from other instructors has been very helpful in developing my own teaching style and im still improving.

Active learning

I have found that getting students up out of their chair and researching the topic to be very helpful. I have them work in groups to find part numbers and facts about various products we discuss. I have found this very effective.
