Class Distractions

Using all these practices are wonderful suggestions of how things should be done in theory in a perfect world of student who want to learn. How do you direct your presentation when you have a classroom full of immature students who feel their disruptive behavior is acceptable. Is there an exercise available to make them understand the importance of qaining a quality education other than telling them that this behavior would not be acceptable in the working world.

Active Learning

I have found this information to all be accurate. In my experience the more active learning there is the better retention there is

Creative effective assessment

In the creative phase of assessment the principal areas are demonstrations of acquired skills and verbalization on the related topic. Primarily in my estimation is to make the student feel comfortablle at the beginning of their course; students are sometimes unsure of their capabilities and potential thus in order for them to enjoy their course and learn the material it is imparativethat they feel comfortable with their learning experience. With this been said it makes for a creative assessment on my part.

Student learning assessment

In the daily routine of observation of student progress it becomes evident in student the knowledge that has been received by mere demonstration and outcome at the end of the day. Not difficult when each student is assessed without interruption in their course of study.

Active Learning in the Sciences

I TA an online physics course. The ideas presented in this course seem quite useful in a classroom setting, but for a course already geared towards problem solving, it is difficult to implement group discussions or presentations, especially in the online setting. It would be interesting to hear anyone else's experience with a similar situation.

interactive learning

I find using the interactive learning strategies gets them thinking on their own and they get downright excited about what they are learning. But be careful, you must be engaged with them, if they start to get frustrated and you don’t help guide them to the correct solution they may be lost for the rest of the day. Stay involved with them, don’t give them the answers just guide them; they feel more satisfaction when they discover it themselves

control and active Learning in an online environment

One of the things I found interesting in this module was the discussion of how active learning can allow adult students to feel a sense of control over their learning. I teach an online course, and I have noticed that each semester a small subset of my students struggle with their lack of control over the course content. This seems to be amplified by the less-personal nature of online courses. I'd love to try implementing some active learning activities in my Skype-style help sessions with the students. Any suggestions?

Keeping students interest

I have noticed that as a new instructor, the hardest thing for me to do is keep everyone interested. I think part of this is the age range of the students, but as a new instructor I know that there are ways I can improve. Any suggestions?

Module 4

I learned from this module that people will often retain information better if they can link some importance to it in everyday life. As an instructor it is my job to help them make this link.

Unit 3

I liked how this unit emphasized the debriefing portion so that as instructors we can learn how to do the group exercise better in the future.

Music

I had never thought of using music to enhance the learning process outside of a music-oriented class.

Classroom

I learned from this section that allowing students to feel more empowered about their own learning can help to speed up the learning process.

Walking around while you teach

I do walk around from time to time but after reading this material i think I'll do it more. I think it is a good teaching tool to keep students alert.

Testing for Higher Learning

Which form of testing do you believe is most useful in understanding how much students have learned the content?
