Ask a question from your peers to help you in your professional work. Seek different points of view on a topic that interests you. Start a thought-provoking conversation about a hot, current topic. Encourage your peers to join you in the discussion, and feel free to facilitate the discussion. As a community of educators, all members of the Career Ed Lounge are empowered to act as a discussion facilitator to help us all learn from each other.

Motivation

I feel student's learn and retain instruction when there is a high level of positive energy in the classroom, that will create an exciting learning environment.

Adult learners

I have noticed that the adult learners are really focused in the class, filled with energy and are looking for learning a new skill and applying them to their life, they also are rich in their life experiences and they share it with us and this have helped out in delivering the information in a practical ways.

instructors

The instructors in the videos are great, with great experience, very informative and they explained it in very simple and practical cases. i do believe everything they said about knowing your students, because this is the key to your students and your class.

I like the comparison

I liked the way the compare active learner virsus passive learner. as this will help me out in the class in approching both types of learners so i can augment their learning skills. and this will definitely have a strong impact on my students.

retention

i think best method for retention is to keep the students excited and to expect quizes or new discussion forms every day and possible qifts cards after they pass their test .

MOTAVATION

kEEPING THE STUDENTS INSTREST SHOULD BE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF TEACHING ONCE WE LOSE THE STUDENT ATTENTION THE LEARNING PROCESS IS TURNED OFF SO WE HAVE TO KEEP THE STUDENT ENGAGED IN THE SUBJECT SO THEY FEEL LIKE THE HAVE ACHEIVED THEIR GOLD.

Instructor; The thin line between friend and teacher

I have observed instructors struggling to manage a class and maintain the boundary line that separates the instructor as a friend in order to maintain order in the classroom or encourage participation. Any suggestions on strategies to achieve successful participation and interactive environment without crossing the boundary line.

motivating your students

I try to lead by example when teaching classes. I think this provides motivation for the students because instead of being told what to do, I work alongside them as a member of the kitchen team, rather than a supervisor. Thus promoting motivation rather than subordination.

Keeping Focus on students

As educators, we have all lived lives through our careers. We strive to train the newest in our field to perform at the highest levels to ensure that our craft does not die.

Humanistic approach

I am currently an instructor at the LCB and I relate my success to my inspirational chefs from LCB Pasadena. I am an alma mater an directly attribute my success to my teachers who offered personal and business advice taking time out of their lives to inspire me

Student retention

As teachers, we must be very patient and tolerant to people in all walks of life. We are educators who lead by example both in our careers and our personal lives. I have always learned to never judge a book by it's cover. And that everyone in life has a story. If we are kind enough to listen and interpret before we didactically try to instruct, our students have a better chance at success.

Security

I favor the idea of the student having security during the learning experience.

student retention

I learned a great deal of valuable information in this course

Daily Quizzes

I have always given daily quizzes in my classes in all different formats. I never thought of them in terms of providing a sense of security to my students. I think it is important to help them believe in themselves. Alot of my students are coming from unfortunate situations and very porr educational backgrounds so the thought of excelling in college is already difficult for them to see themselves doing. I was happy to read that my instructional methods can also add to their sense of knowing they can do what I require of them.

Motivation

Sometimes no matter how much inspiration, engagement, or motivation we have...a few students lose interest. However, we must connect with them on a personal level as well. Often times it is not because we are not good instructors. It is easy and common for life to bring us down. These students often rely on us as mentors as well as instructors. Therefore, our roles become increasingly important. Remaining proactive about education and showing genuine care often promotes a healthy relationship. Regards, Amber Cochran

EDU 102

Good points to remember about students. It was a good refresher. Sometimes we forget to take the age diversity into consideration when teaching a course.

"Pair-Think-Share" Technique

I really like this spin on the group activity. I plan to utilize it by putting students into pairs (and changing the pairings up each day) before lecture and presenting a critical thinking or reflection question to enhance learning. I find this technique so valuable because my students will have the opportunity to listen to other points of view and learn to negotiate how to present their answers. It also provides an opportunity for reinforcement.

Learning Styles

As an instructor, it is important to rememeber that all students learn differently. It is important to learn to conform and change accordingly. Every student learns differently.

motivation

every instructor/teacher has a different way of motivating their students mine is to show excitement for the course

I was once there

letting your students know that everybody has a starting point and it may be at the bottom and its ok to start there I started at the bottom now look where I'm at now
