What is used to protect wires in a circuit?
Ans: fuse/circuit breaker
Why is it important to have a fuse or circuit breaker in a lighting circuit?
Ans: Protects the wires in a circuit because its easier and less time consuming to change a component in a circuit rather than re-wire a circuit.
I teach a diagnostic strategy called SSCC, which stands for Symptom System Component Cause.
The first question I ask my students is:
What is the first step in diagnosing?
The open question I ask is:
Why do you think this step is so important?
Joe,
These are very good examples. Do you use more open questions or closed ones?
Judy Mohammed
Jim, Thats a great example. In my class I ask as a closed question, "show me the Evaporator?".
An open question would be,"somebody tell me how does the Evaporator work and why is that important to know?".
James,
This really depends on the teacher and the material being taught. Many times it is better to use closed questions in technical classes. Open questions, though, can give very good feedback from students as to their understanding of the material.

Steven,
This is a very good method, which I'm sure is very effective.

I prefer closed most of the time but some times open ended questions fit better.
Hi Judy,
When introducing a new system or component I probably ask more closed questions to verify the students understand what the components are and what they do in the system. It is only after the student can recall the components and what they do can I ask more open ended questions that require critical thinking skills of how the components interact with one another.
Steven,
Open questions do encourage students to use critical thinking skills and this is excellent for us a teachers. Do you use more open or closed-ended questions in classes?
