Hi Susan,
Great response! Classroom management is essential to effective learning. The instructor must produce an environment that is conducive for learning to occur.
Patricia
Whether you are a New instructor or a seasoned instructor planning your classroom management is essential to the success of the class each and everyday. No matter what age the students are they need to know what the expectations are.
I am a firm believer in involving the students when planning the expectations. Once you have set the expectations and involved the students with the planning of this- they now have buy in. Now that you are clear and the students understand the expectations the follow through with the management is so important. If you as an instructor do not manage your class it can set the class into a negative spin. You will lose students, they will not be focused and you as an instructor will feel that you have lost control.
Hi Gerald,
Students deserve, want, and need an atmosphere that is conducive for learning to take place.
Patricia
Hi Charles,
Students should have an environment where effective learning can take place. This environment must be managed by the instructor.
Patricia
It creates a structured environment for learning where distractions are minimized.
Hi Cynthia,
Students deserve to learn in an atmosphere that is conducive for learning.
Patricia
It sets the tone for the course and the students will respect you if you maintain a conducive learning environment.
I do have a question for someone. I have known disruptive students in my classes. Sometimes, the problem disappears without any further action by myself. Why? I have speculated that other students were talking with the one who is disrupting.
I believe it is part of trust and. Can the instructor so manage this learning situation that the student feels free to explore but within boundaries established by the school rules and policies and by those boundaries established by the syllabus.
I find each class a welcomed opportunity to remind myself of the benefits of proper class management. I want my students to learn in a growing, sharing atomsphere.
John, I find that classroom management and how you have expressed this leads to student trust in the classroom.
Class management is essential for several reasons:
a)to maintain and promote an educational environment.
b) to achieve the goals and objectives of the course
c) to insure that each and every student is part of the total experience of learning in community.
Class management enables a good learning environment. Disruption of the class may be an attempt to interfere with necessary learning experiences.
Class management is a critical part of educational planning because it helps establish a positive and safe learning environment where the learners know what the class rules are and what the expected learner behavior is. A well-managed class enables learning to occur with minimal disruption, if any.
Hi Cynthia,
I agree! Each student should be given every opportunity for classroom engagement to grow into a professional.
Patricia
Each student may learn at a different rate and have different needs but in order for each student to have the necessary tools, class management is very important.
We must allow each student the ability to participate, grow and respond to the material .
The student appreciate structure to the classroom and it is an important basis for managing the class. I also believe along with structure come recognition, and if you can call the students by name, on the second day of class, you have established a rapport in the classroom. With the combination of structure and individual recognition, this will help to manage the students and allow for a relaxed learning atmosphere.
Hi Nicole,
The instructor has to work hard on keeping the environment a place where effective teaching and learning can take place.
Patricia
Hi John,
Students need and want boundaries. The environment should be one where effective teaching and learning can take place.
Patricia
Students need a good base to learn from, this starts from the first day of class, the syllabus and the ground rules that the instructor sets for the students. During the first class you need to give the students a guideline of your expectations and inform them that if they work hard and do what is expected from their end of the course, they will learn and pass the course.
