Annette,
Making the connection with the student is so important in order to fully determine the fit for the program and school.

Kristen,
Both versions have value.

Kristen,
Agreed! Many confuse the term with licensure. It is critical to fully you understand the terms and what it means to them personally.

Jeanne,
Excellent start! Make the notebook work for you.

The resource notebook has been helpful to me to ensure that I give out the correct information. I've added course descriptions, technical information because our courses are technical in nature.

I included financial aid brochures, career service information and all other departments valuable information. I was not aware that every prospective student must have access to a catalog prior to enrollment or the collection of fees. Although we do make that available to all prospective students and is available online.

When interviewing a potential student, we always discuss the admissions requirments which are listed in our catolog and requirements for job placement assistance. Some applicants ask about a "cash discount" for tuition, in which we inform them there is no such thing and no matter how a student pays for training the tuition remains the same.

Admissions, Enrollment Agreement, and Course Catalogue.

My company has a green policy and suggests saving paper whenever possible. I am curious if an Electronic Resource Notebook would have the same value.

I think many students do not understand what Accreditation means. I think it is important to explain this to the students so they have a better understanding of the school and the processes the school has gone through. Articulation is another term that many students don't understand fully.

For the admissions process there are a lot of questions in reference to enrollment of a potential student, completion date, competency entrance test, tutor, people become nervous at times when they are not in school for a long time. Get them comfortable in the process of enrollment and use words with definitions in the interview process also, so they become familiar with them.

I am putting all of my resource documents in my notebbook so I have them for reference

Jennifer,
Add any additional material that will assist you in your job. Make it work for you.

Sham,
The notebook is your go-to resource. Make it your top book for reference.

Sheila,
To guarantee would be misleading to the student and against the rules of CIE.

Some of the terms used during the admission process at our college include: admissibility, transfer credits, cohort start dates, payment agreement, academic transcripts, and teaching certificates. It is extremely important to determine the admissibility of prospective students before beginning the application process. This prevents lost time and fees from ineligible students and preserves the reputation of our college.

I compiled all the information suggested in a resource notebook, divided into sections, with an easy to reference table of contents. I also included an organizational chart, internal forms used for managing contacts, the faculty handbook and certain policies and procedures for admissions, marketing, student services and placement. Contact information for CIE is included on the first page for updates. Minutes of recent staff meetings are located in the back. This entire binder will be useful for orienting new staff to the various laws, rules, regulations, oversight requirements and internal policies for our new staff members (both faculty and admissions). I find it is imperative that all employees are familiar with recruiting laws because each employee will inadvertently be an advertising tool for the school when discussing their job to family, friends and acquaintances, no matter what their position is. This book will be amended as new updates become available via CIE. During this process, I thought about the organizational structure that would be most useful for new employees and tried to ensure that all information is included that may lead to a greater understanding of their role. I realized that this is a lot of information for a new employee to become familiar with at once and am currently working on a new orientation guideline for new employees that would break the information down into easily understandable segments to allow for the formation of questions after digestion of the material.

The items that I have placed in my Resource Notebook is the Admissions Policies and procedures manual, Course catelog and handbook. What I have discovered about my intitution is licensed by the Commision for Independent Education.
