Lori,
Definitions are part of the language we usse when communicating with students. Many of these terms they have not come across before and we need to take the time to explain fully.
I have placed all information provided in my reesource notebook
Holli,
We sometimes use acronyms just as we use other words in speaking. It is very important to remember who our audience is and they are very unfamiliar with the jargon.
enrollment ,enrollment agreement, student catalog were not accredited, different programs that we offer and what advertising worked for them to inquire about our institution
The resource notebook is a wonderful idea. Currently our reps have a training manual but a notebook that is regularly updated with pertinent reg changes, Career Services update, program changes, etc. would be beneficial.
we use the terms like credit hours clock hours accreditation, etc..
The Resource Notebook is a great tool to have everything in one place, most of the items I already have, but gathering information on how marketing is done will be challenging since it is done out of state at the corporate level. How would I approach management to supply these items to me and also keep me informed on changes they make so I'm up to date without them feeling that I'm requesting too much from them since there is a lack of communication between campuses that are out of state.
yOU MUST KNOW ABOUT ALL ADVERTISING PROVIDED BY YOUR SCHOOL
The Resource Notebook is an invaluable tool. My School has put in this book: Terms & Definitions, Florida Statutes & Rules, the School Catalogue, Enrollment Agreement, Policies & Proceedures, Employee and Student Manuals, and the Organizational Chart.
I think the Resource Notebook is a valuable tool to have. I do agree that the CIE website should be visited constantly for updates.
Within the first few days here, our team began putting together a reference guide similar to this, with our institution specific information - adding these regs, terminology, etc will be invaluable to us! This will help not only the admissions team, but both front of the house and the education side - that way we all have a solid understanding of what is expected. Thanks!
to me termination has always meant to leave a program prior to graduate/ completion. Terminate is such an ugly word I like withdraw much more.
I agree as well as we use several different acronyms for our programs. Acronyms can be very confusing as well to your students so make sure you say it in full.
HI,
My suggestion to you and your new team would be to visit other schools and hear what they say as well as speak to some seasoned reps that may be familiar with the "lingo" good luck to you.
I agree that the resource notebook (manual) is a vital tool when training staff members; however at our instituation we find that our staff find it easier to verbally ask questions rather then look up the information. This means they're not using the tool as effectively as they could. Does anyone have any ideas on how to combat this?
yes, we do have a catalog, they just created a smaller version of teh main catalog and that is the copy I am including in my resource notebook, it is a more condensed version of the main catalog, I also printed my list of terms and definitions that is also included in my notebook.
I am currently creating my resource notebook and definitely find it as a great tool for the future. This will all come in handy since I just recently moved over to a different department. A lot of this will seem so new to me even though I've worked at this company for years.
The resourse notebook is a fabulous informational tool for any admissions representative and prospective student. At my campus, we have always used a "proof sourcing book" with some/most of the materials included.
One of the items I found most interesting to add
and discover was learning of all the different marketing material and monthly marketing plans used by my organization. This was an area we hear some things about from time to time but not having full knowledge of at all times.
Personal interests, information, timing, family support, life changing decisions, current situation, schedules, obstacles. Commitment, Financial Aid, career services, licensing.
Indeed, there are many terms used in our institution and as you stated these are not limited to the several mentioned previously. Nevertheless, understanding these definitions, and the appropriate terms will help Enrollment representatives in providing student with accurate information while remaining in compliance as required by Florida Statutes for fair consumer practices.
