Here at my instution, I've gathered that they have great plan of action in place to be applied. We haven't yet started to use due to being new, less than 2 years old. However Im discovering that they have put the curriculum, and programs together splendidly and should vote well for a smooth transition to enrolling. I would rate my knowledge of the institution a 4 1/2 to 5 as this is just my 4th day with the company.
I feel that I have a great understanding of this institution. I have been here for several years. I know the processes in place for admissions including the admission requirements and the financial aid process. I am familiar with the enrollment agreement and the portions of it such as if a student would like to cancel their enrollment and the refund policies. I know about the student services we provide to our students such as the learning resource center and Career Services. And now I am learning about the CIE regulations and rules.
Knowledge is key to success, and gaining knowledge about my institution on a weekly basis, either via changes or updates via meetings held, has helped me to acquire the bigger picture. We incorporate all departments at one time or another so that our knowledge is all on the same page as far as an institution is concerned. I feel confindent that I am pretty up to date within the institution I work in, and appeciate the leaders here that make it a policy to keep us updated as information flows through the pipe line.
As the CAO I am involved in all fascists of the institution. Therefore not much was discovered. :)
I consider myself to be very knowledgable about my institution.
I know that we orignally began in 1969 and that we have campuses nationwide. Also, I know who to go to for different things. For example, the Registrar or the Records Coordinator can request a student's highschool transcripts and faculty in academics and registration can administer admissions tests. I am discovering new things about what people can do with certain degrees that we offer.
I agree with you Carl! The organization chart can help understand who you are working with and what positions they hold. You'll be able to reference them for assistance in their areas of expertise. I don't think adding their job descriptions is a bad idea. This way students can know who to go to as well. It'll save time and resources by allowing them direct access to this type of information.
I think that's an important point. A good relationship between each department results in a much better experience for the student.
The org chart is a good start to understand who's who, but what helps me with understanding the insitution is getting to know those people. I make sure that I'm familar with the personel at the different levels within our orgaization, and what they bring to that department.
Perhaps a qualifying statement would be best on this question. I agree that it gives a bird’s eye view of the organization and how it’s structured. In addition, it gives a student or representative an understanding of how the institution operates and who has the responsibilities. However, it doesn’t necessarily detail the mission, duties, and requirements of a particular department. This could be summarized whenever the chart is referenced. A chart, whether verbal or visual is great for giving a insight into the administration of the college.
Arturo,
Alumni are a great marketing tool. They have "been there, done that."
Elise,
Your enthusiasm shows!
from alumni you can get a referral
I feel well-informed. I work at it and know it is important.
Our school had a wonderful training program and gave me lots of time to learn and find my way through the information. I also did role play with Reps and watched interviews to observe the correct way to do things. But I feel like we are still in a learning mode all the time. I find new and better ways to do things and we are given information on the correct way to handle situations. Being open to learning is very important. Thank you
I have been in post secondary education for 14+ years and have been the Director at my current campus for 8 months so I am very versed on my institution. It is important for admissions personnel to know as much as they can about their institution and/or where to find the answers.
Monica,
Keep on learning!
Madeline,
Great news! Thank you for your post.
Keisher,
History tells a story and the story is of where you began, and how you got to today.
Brad,
The more you learn, your comfort level will increase.
