It is important to be organized and prepared for each class because it allows for optimal delivery of the course objectives.

Being prepared allows you to be a role model for your students. It shows good planning and organizational skills. Being prepared allows you to have time to deal with "last minute" issues that may arise.

One of the main reasons is the students watch you as an instructor. If you are not prepared, they see that and you can lose credability. If you stammer through your lesson plan, you appear to not know what you are talking about and on this level, the students will eat you alive. Furthermore, being prepared just makes the whole day go better. You are not constantly rushed trying to figure out what is next on the fly.

Hi Tracy:

The problem with consistent disorganization from an instructor is the potential loss of credibility with the students, and the message it may send, which is “I’m not concerned enough about your learning to be organized for you”.
