Nicole,
It is a great great resource for finding referrals. Social media is part of the new generation.

Arlin,
I am glad to hear you say that you have a policy in place. Many schools do not have restrictions on the use of social media and it is imperative to do so as you so pointed out.
Patty Aronoff
Elizabeth,
Social media must be kept current. Having the time and effort to do so really is dependent upon the resources available to the school.

In think social media is one of the best way for advertisement right now because my institution use social media and we are getting great leads from them.
these are used to help generate referrals
We use social media to announce upcoming events and post picture of celebratory events that took place. We have policy on how to use the social media because once the information is out there you can't retract it, and the damage would have already been done.
We are currently working with a marketing company for advertising, website and social media recommendations and implentation of these recommendations. We have had FB for awhile, but have finally had an opportunity to revitalize it. Now the challenge is keeping it current! We do update our website regularly and monitor the visits to our pages. Those that are viewed regularly are also the pages that we plan to focus on. At the same time, we want to increase the visits to other pages and are working on a plan to make them more appealing. Social media is definitely the way to go!
maytu,
Using social media takes time and effort to maintain its viability. Not all schools have the time or the technology person to maintain the site.
Patty Aronoff
Our school has a Facebook and Twitter page which I maintain. It is a great way for students to share their achievements, spread information about upcoming events and pictures of their accomplishments. It is and can be very time consuming so I can understand why some schools do not dedicate a page.
Perez Ortiz,
It is a very good marketing strategy. Many students use social media as part of their everyday life and it's a great way to connect with current and prospective students.
Patty Aronoff
Shannon,
So true! That is one of the downfalls of social media. Having a bad post can take a toll on your school and with the Internet it never goes away.
Patty Aronoff
My schools are using both applications, as they facilitate students keep informed prospects and future prospects, a part of which is also essential to promote such courses and the institution. As for my school, we are in the approval process, as we recognize that it is a good marketing strategy for the student to learn the program.
My institution uses facebook but not yet twitter. It is a great way to inform the viewers about what is going on and to get their feedback, which is why we need to always ensure that we provide great customer service as a bad post can go viral way faster than a good post does.
Jim,
It is a double edge sword. Once we open ourselves up we can receive wonderful comments and we can receive negative comments. Once it's posted on the web there's no going back.
Patty Aronoff
Jenny,
Safety is a concern with social media. We must be cautious with what we place on the web and maintain student confidentiality. Many schools do the right thing and get students permission to post a picture on the web.
Patty Aronoff
Jenny,
Transparency is the key. Even though social media is not specifically referenced in the rules, it does fall under the standard 11 of advertising so we need to be careful of what we put on the web.
Patty Aronoff
jackie,
It really is a great tool. It does take time to manage the sites but it is well worth it in the end.
Patty Aronoff
Chelsea,
Social media does keep everyone connected. And it's not just the students that are involved. The community at large and even just those interested in a particular topic you will come across your site.
Patty Aronoff
Elicia,
Very cool! The real classroom experience through the web. Congratulations!
Patty Aronoff
Elicia,
I can feel your excitement! Having a classroom that is exciting and promoting the career that they are interested in carries well beyond the classroom. Networking which is part of getting a job today is very very important. You are setting your students up for success.
