We use Facebook, Twitter, Utube and blogs. The president of our university has his own blog. Our admissions and student services directors post to our adult learning blog on a regular basis with relevant topics for our students. Since we have a limited advertising budget, we contract with a local TV station for ads and leaderboards on their website. Although social media helps us reach a larger and broader audience, I still believe building relationships with your students is the key to retention and referrals.
I don't use social media as often as I used too, but I will look forward to utilizing it.
We have the one Dental Assisting program in our school so the social media does take time and dedication. I find the student with their instructor can make it a fun learning event in class plus a requirement for participation with instuctor guidance as what is allowed and what is not.
Our school does use the facebook media to post pictures of students in their classes and their current studies, labs etc. Plus able to stay in contact with students to encourage them throughout their learning experience.
Our school has a Facebook account and constantly requests students to upload pictures of them in class or in school functions to the page to gain interest in the community.
Susan,
Correct! You are unable to advertise until you receive your provisional license.

Autumn,
It is a great way to stay connected. Many schools use social media sites to post pictures of events and share information of what's going on in your school.
Patty Aronoff
Cheryl,
It is a double edge sword. Social media can be great when the information is positive, but it can be deadly when the information is incorrect or negative.
Patty Aronoff
Kelly,
Social media still falls under the commission for consumer practices. Any information placed on the website must continue to be monitored and be compliant with rules.
Patty Aronoff
Jennifer,
I would agree! Having someone to monitor at the social website is critical in maintaining information. It always needs to be fresh.
Patty Aronoff
Adalinda,
It does take monitoring. Social media in order to be effective needs specific attention every day.

Since we are in the process of applying for our provisional license, we cannot advertise via social media for our campus. We do use Facebook and Twitter to keep interested parties abreast of what our Foundation is doing, i.e., programming, fundraising events, program participant accomplishments, etc. Also, we occasionally highlight our partner organizations.
Our school has pages on several social media websites but due to small staff size, we don't use them nearly as often as we should. Social media is a great way to stay connected with alumni and inform and attract people who would be a great fit for the school.
Social media must be monitored carefully as they may also cast an unfavorable light to your facility. If it is possible for anyone to post, you could fall victim to a disgruntled employee or a prospective student that did not meet eligibility.
We are currently using Facebook, but not nearly enough. I feel this training should be required for our social media person as well.
We have one specific person to manage our Facebook page. I think this is important in order to make sure inaccurate information isn't getting distributed. What are your thoughts?
All social media publications are published by our Marketing Department whom always takes the appropriate precautions to make sure that we remain in compliance. I believe that social media is a wonderful way to stay in touch with the communities and learn about their needs and wants as well as inform them about our college prospects.
michael,
Many schools do not. It takes time and much attention to keep it going and working well.
Patty Aronoff
Jonathan,
It does have to comply with Florida law and it's on the web. We cannot provide misleading information and must pay attention to detail when we are using this as a marketing tool.
